Hi all - Some really good images during the couple of weeks I was away travelling some 4500 kms to, through, and back from the Kruger National Park. It was so good to get out to see our beautiful country and to be able to travel. Even though Knysna and the Cape Garden Route is beautiful it is possible to get cabin fever. Something like catching a fish on every cast and not being allowed to stop.
I've also been very busy with camera club competitions and polishing up my judging knowledge and almost all of my photography has been with (umm!) AF glass that I've neglected the sacred stuff for a while but I will be back. Also acting as administrator for an aging brother is time consuming and frustrating but necessary.
I hope you all survive what promises to be a hectic week! Appropriate that it follows on Halloween as trick for one will be treat for the next!
From afar the American electoral college system seems bizarre and outdated in that last time 70 000 votes determined the outcome despite a popular vote favouring the losing candidate. This despite the definition of democracy which the Oxford dictionary describes as "a system of government by the whole population".
I have no axe to grind and will watch the outcome with interest. For me the circus comes to town every four years and is an unending source of bemusement. Good luck to you all and to the United States.

The UK first past the post constituency system also makes it easily possible for the 'winner' to get less total votes than the losers. But the statistical problems with 'democracy' pale in relation to the quality of candidates we get, and truly bizarre 'winners'!

Thank you, Kristian, Mother nature did most of the heavy lifting.
Terrific photos and great sunstars with the 25-50 f/4. Before reading your description, thought they were taken with the 16/3.5.
Take care,
Serge
Thanks Serge!! I really wish I had a 16/3.5 Still a bit expensive to me though. I am saving up on a new camera since I'm not sure how much longer my D800 will live, It's quite beaten 😬
Nice picture Colin, it shows one of the many qualities the 105mm f/2.5 has: very good bokeh behind the subject as well as in front of it, this is not very common.

Very nice pictures Kristian.
I love the 25-50mm f/4, it has all started with this lens about in 2008 with my D200, it has been my first manual focus Nikon lens, then the 50-135mm f/3.5 has followed and than many others.

Very sharp to the corner! I suspect this old lens could be sharper than a new not professional zoom like 24-105/120/200mm.
Your best bet, Ken, is to contact Fred. Upper right corner at the top of the page where it says Moderated by: Fred Miranda, click there.
I tried to do the renewal with PayPal back in April, and got this (sent it to Fred, then paid with a card)

I haven't posted anything here in quite a long time, but I'd like to still have that option. So, when I got the notification that it was time to renew my "Upload and Sell" status, I attempted to renew as I've done in the past with a credit card. I keep getting a pop-up that says "This card declined." I contacted my bank. They said everything is in order with the card. They are not declining the transaction; in fact they don't see any attempted transaction. So the problem is with the Fred Miranda site.
When I go to the Control Panel on this site, it states "Upload & Sell days left: Unlimited days." I'm using the same card I've used since joining this site. I couldn't post any images now even if I were ready to. Can somebody explain what is going on and how to address this problem?...Show more →
I have a few questions for the Nikon MF glass experts here:
I'm considering adding a 20mm to my Nikon kit (currently 28mm AIS, 50mm H, 105mm 2.5 AIS) to use on Nikon FF, but also on my Fuji with a tilt-shift adapter.
It seems the best option in terms of sharpness is the 20mm 2.8 AIS, followed by Voigtländer 20mm 3.5 -> is that in line with experience here? How does the 20mm 3.5 AI compare?
Last, but not least - is any of the 3 considerably better than the others regarding distortion?
I managed to find one with a dinged hood, doesn't seem to affect the images. I have another in better condition.

Not sure how the UD compares in quality to the other choices, but there's definitely been a lot of past talk about it here. Went looking for samples and found this pre-pandemic era photo:
