Ben, one of the reasons you fit so well with this crowd and this particular game we're playing with manual focus lenses is your willingness to push back when challenged by the wonderful humor that we've developed here. As Laura observes you were willing to play Devil when it came to dangling lenses in front of people while at the same denying that had happened at all. But really everyone is playing that game on some level... challenging decisions others have made and pointing them to other possibilities... hence the kit building motto.

I would say, at least for me, kit building will never involve ANY camera that requires an adaptor to mount these lenses in the same way that I'd never consider buying a pre-AI len and cutting the aperture ring. Yes, the Df takes very good care of me with regard to both of these matters. I know it isn't the best camera on the market at the moment, but it works.

Glad you drop by from time to time. Now you can shame your friend Philippe into joining us... wouldn't that be fun?

You'll get no argument from me Reagan. This is all about boys and toys. We do that with inexpensive lenses while NASA and the Defense Department spend billions on REAL toys...

Don't know much about the Canon world, either, but something like this would probably work

https://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Lens-Mount-Adapter-Nikkor/dp/B001G4QXLE

"They" said that the older lenses wouldn't resolve so well on newer Nikon cameras like the D800.. but "They" are wrong.

For portraits, you can't go wrong with a 105 f/2.5 AI or AI-s or the 135 f/2, or the 85 f/1.4 AI-s

(how deep did you say your pockets were??)

I thought about doing that before I purchased a Canon 50D as a backup .. but another reason I posted this question is because I wouldn't mind being familiar to both systems hence the interchangeable adapter.

honesty, I was quite unsure on were older Nikon bodies stood in terms of ISO, DR, etc. besides D2 + D2h, D3, etc. being more geared toward sports journalists and action shooting. The Dxxx series were full-frame geared toward high MP fashion shooters, maybe landscapes. This limited my ability to really narrow it down. Also, as never shooting Nikon I could not extend

Oh, and I'm that one person at a festival walking around with two cameras, one with the Nikon 200 f/2 (chubby) attached, and the other with one of the various lenses I've brought with me.

Wista RF and Nikkor-SW 90 f8. Ilford HP5 Plus developed in Cinestill monobath. For some reason scanning this pic was not really working too well with the Epson flatbed. So this is scanned on a cheapo light table, using the Z6 and Micro-Nikkor 5.5cm f3.5 lens. Fiddled around in Photoshop to get the image inverted and tweaked. Not quite sure what's going on but the negative is crisp against the light table with a 6X loupe.

A pretty messy/chaotic scene that nonetheless appealed to me. 50-135.

Actually pleasant to not have the constant noise of jet engines nowadays. This is Z6 and 400 5.6 ED AIS.

Another prodigal returns. Do you have any manual focus Nikon lenses left Joseph? Inquiring minds want to know... A NOCT perhaps?

I see many are now moving away from dedicated scanners and using a macro set-up to shoot the negative then using something like NegativeLabPro to convert it. When the V-ED dies, I think I may turn to a macro setup instead of a dedicated scanner.

I've started using NLP with RAW DNG scans from my V-ED and can testify that the software is excellent. Still learning a lot, but it's a million times easier than ColorPerfect, and the results are better than Nikon Scan4 as well IMO. I've started scanning lots of my older negs and runing them through NLP and the difference is amazing.

I see you are using the Cinestill monobath. I just googled it and just watched the vid. It's now a one-chem one-step process?!?! Things have changed since I last developed in 2017

I want to start shooting B&W again, but every time I get the negs back from a lab, they are full of scratches, and Digital Ice doesn't work on B&W. I'll need to start developing again. I'm glad to see things have changed. There's even a "daylight film processing" kit now!

My wife will be most pleased with the smell of chemicals in her bathroom again

I've been using monobath from New55. I like it but it's still time consuming. I have about 20 B&W rolls in the freezer.

It's good to see this thread continue on. I've been out of the game for a while, but I've recently bought a near-new Df and a 28-50 f/3.5. These purchases will go along nicely with my collection of "K" lenses:

*28 f/3.5
*35 1.4 (found 6/6)
*35 f/2
*50 f/1.4
*55 f/3.5
*85 f/1.8
*135 2.8 (found 5/31)
*200 f/4

I'm still looking for a 35 1.4 K lens to complete my collection - so if anyone sees one, please give me a heads-up. EDIT: Found one!

Hopefully, I'll get a chance to take a few shots worth posting soon. It's always fun to share a hobby with like-minded folks.

I am homesick, miss my weekly crusing grand street.

The 50 1.4 is not a favorite of mine, read a review that claims it renders beautifully so I went to get old photos.
