I think I might get rid of my 24/2.8 and replace it with the f/2 version, and stick with my Nikkor-H 28/3.5 for that focal length. I like MF lenses that are a little soft in the corners. If I need clinical precision, I’ll just reach for one my modern f/1.4 primes.
Before you do, keep in mind that if you're talking about the AIS version, the 28/2.8 focuses closer than any other 28.

+1 regarding the 180/2.8 ED. It's an extrodinary lens. I remember when the D800 came out and many were saying these lenses wouldn't be able to keep up with the new high MP sensors The 180/2.8 @ 2.8 almost has a 3D effect that not many lenses have. It's brilliant.
I had the best photographic experience of my life with this lens back in 2012 in Cambodia. We were setting off from Siem Reap to Kompong Phluk (a flooded village), and at the very last second, I thought I'd better take the 180/2.8 just in case. Good thing I did as I used it 90% of the time. It was an unforgettable experience cruising down this river on a small old boat manually focusing this lens on my D800e.
Posted these many years back on this thread before I'm pretty sure ...

More output from the foggy morning. This was the type of shot I had visualized when I was packing the gear that morning, and was thrilled when I saw it at the local park that we frequent for running and cycling. 50-135 (it was very much a Leighton lens day).
Nice one Ray. Looks just like that out my window right now, but I'm to lazy to go out and grab a shot.
There's a mint 180mm(it's the one with the gold ring, right?) at the shop I bought my Pre-AI lenses at. They know how much things are worth though, so not a bargain and I already have the AF-D version.
The Df arrived back this morning having been at Nikon since the second week of March. They were waiting for a part from Singapore and then we went on lockdown since 26 March. It's been a loooooooooong wait and judging by my fumbling when I tried to use it this morning, I must have broken it.
I've studied and studied the manual but it still looks like a lot of camera for me. It is one I had been lusting for ever since it was announced, though so when there was a chance to get one for accessible money, I sprung, and unfortunately promptly broke it. I'll be careful now.
As luck would have it, it's windy today but I couldn't resist.
I have two MF 180's and the AF version prior to the AF-D... go get the lens

Curtis - "step away for a day and things get crazy" I remember lurking for months and there was no sign of you. But yes, I snuck in while Philippe was away - but he's back now, on flickr anyway, so I don't dare post anymore pics.
Thank you everyone for the greetings.
Leighton - Tell me how you find the macbook 16 inch, I'm looking at buying one. I've got the 2017 Macbook Pro 15 - but it has serious thermal throttling (and of course the keyboard never worked). Now, with the 45mp files of the Z7 it's become unusable. I
need another laptop - I don't mind windows 10, and I'm tossing up between the macbook 16 inch or waiting for a new release later this year, although this thing is driving me crazy so I don't know if I can wait.
Colin - is it weird if I respond to your Flickr comment about the FTZ adapter here? Yes, I agree with you, it's not much of a looker on the Z cameras, but all the adapters are much of a muchness, they're just metal tubes bridging the flange difference for mirrorless. I pulled it out so I could use the MF lenses and post on here.
I used to shoot these MF lenses exclusively a few years ago but now I don't know how I did it, I've become so used to pressing the shutter and letting the camera do all the work that I'm finding it quite hard to use them - not that I have many left. I sold at least 100 - 150 lenses before leaving Australia. I sort of regret it now, there's a couple I wish I'd kept. But I see Curtis is still up to his old tricks, quietly and persistently urging more purchases - so who knows, I may re-buy - ha ha - adds new meaning to the "kit building is forever' adage.
I forgot how quickly this thread moves - it's full time work keeping up.
One more time. It didn't take long for this to happen but I'm only saying this for the first time . "I forgot to change the Exif", . This was taken with the 135mm.
Dean, great examples with the 180 2.8 AIS. Curtis, I always think it should be "deserted island" lens, not "desert island" lens. There may not be much to look at on a desert island
I have gotten distracted by the 180 2.8 P version in recent years, even that's fun to use. From the archives:

So far I love it. Plenty big enough and faster than my desktop. There is a little learning curve coming from Windows, but nothing I can't handle. As I've said before, I have used nothing but Windows since my first computer and LOVED Windows 7. BUT...I just can't get onboard with 10. OIS is so much simpler once you learn it. The only thing I'll say is make sure you order what you think you'll need as far as RAM, CPU and storage.
Having said that, I almost waited and went for the new upcoming Dell XPS 17". That thing looks like a beast on paper.

I remember seeing these before, great then and now. Do you still have the D800? I've been thinking about picking up the D800 or D810.
No, the D800e went years ago but my friend bought it off me so it’s still kind of around. He also has a few of my MF Nikon lenses. He’s French but lives in Sweden and is currently stranded in Singapore so I’m not sure I’ll be seeing the lenses anytime soon
The D810 seems like a good bargain at the moment. The D750 is also a nice buy, but a 16” MBP needs a 36mp sensor I think

Thanks, Kristian. Nothing like using the shoulder and elbow for tripod duties. If I were visiting your neck of the woods, would be in line to try your hot sauce
Laura, great to hear that you are happy with your new position.
Took these last year and just got around to tweaking. I was following (mostly running) the little white sail boat from Governors Island.
To the right is the parking garage for the Staten Island Ferry:
