I laughed at those prices. MSRP for Pappy has been a pipe dream for a decade. God luck finding any at any price. The hedge fund managers are paying $5000 + in the secondary markets for Pappy 23.
It's gotten so bad that people are chasing the other wheated Trace blends. Many Weller's are now overpriced as well, and I haven't seen Blanton's in a liquor store in 3 years. The collector mentality has destroyed the market for people that actually like the stuff.
Like Curtis, I prefer a good rye anyway. MGP juice, Forrester's and Woodford Rye can be found under $30 around here all day long. Good enough for me. ...Show more →
The IR shot by Colin a couple pages back prompted me to try something with the Monochrom. I did some testing of a couple of the Nikkor LTM lenses with an 720nm IR filter on the lens after work today. Since the Monochrom base ISO is higher without the color filter array in front of the sensor, it actually allows for higher shutter speeds and decent handheld shooting. I shot with the 10.5cm f/2.5 and the 3.5cm f/2.5 and they performed very well.
Posting a couple of quick test shots below using the 3.5cm Nikkor.
Also using these lens/filter combinations on the Monochrom sensor does not require any post processing to get the IR black and white.
I have a couple scenes in mind for this setup and hope to catch some clear blue skies on my trip to the grocery later in the week. For those I will use a tripod, lower ISO and smaller aperture. But happy with these early results.
Okay... I figured since I was spending SEVEN HUNDRED dollars for a set of tires I should at least have a bit of fun while waiting... so I took a ramble in San Rafael which is the largest city in Marin County. Honestly, the neighborhood is not that appealing, but I found a few opportunities. I was once again using the "Leighton" lens. It is a fine walk around lens, as our friend from Virginia has been demonstrating over the years.
I've never forgotten you and Ray telling me you kept a second shirt in your vehicle so you could change after sweating through your first... that told me Florida is NOT a place for me...

Port Cask Finished Virginia-Highland Whisky
Ah yes... I read about that after you mentioned it before. That definitely looks like a whisky worth trying... in another lifetime, perhaps. Glad you're enjoying it George.
A very good friend lived in San Juan Capistrano and I visited a few times. His home in the hills south of town certainly didn't have this type of charm. I may have attended a concert at the Mission, but I'm not certain. Definitely a charming place.
