That may be... but the 200 f/1.8 he sold here was pretty much destroyed. The photos he posted of it for sale showed it as a pristine lens, the buyer rightfully went to "Forum & Misc" and showed what he received...

I read that thread and saw the photos... definitely a bad actor. It was sad that he held that awesome username... NikkorAIS... My guess is most of the photo dumps he did on this thread were done late at night after some heavy drinking. But he seems to disappear from the universe since my search found nothing but old links. Part of this threads distant past...

Okay... the last from three days ago with the 50-135 f/3.5 AI-s with the PK-13 mounted. I haven't gotten to the photos I took yesterday. For some reason I'm busy! Go figure. Actually, I did graphic design for two books for a friend some time ago. He died a year and a half ago and he left money in his will both to thank me for my efforts and to pay for publishing at least one of the books. The executor of his estate is ready to go forward but there are quite a few pieces that need to be put in place for the printing to happen. Going back to projects completed almost two years ago is stretching my mind. That's not a bad thing given physical distancing, but still... I'd rather simply be taking photos, processing them and sharing them with my FM friends... It is fun to design books though...

More from the archives. This from last years trip to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Please note that the Grotto Shrine was dark and the shot at 1/8 sec at Auto ISO is 25600. Looks remarkable and speaks bundles for the Z6 since it was barely visible with the naked eye.

Ken, engineer yes, naval architect no!, just a humble electronic engineer making radars, sonars and missiles work!

This is NOT from the archives, DDG-1001 USS Michael Monsoor completed its Post Delivery Availability (PDA) and went to its first AST (at sea time) with several of my friends aboard, I was not so lucky.

I was asked to take some photos though and went to my usual Spot at Point Loma, Cabrillo was closed so I went to the Cemetery, had a weird experience with the grounds manager, a retired Navy Commander not letting me take photos from his location, he had me take my gear down even though I had all the proper IDs but as soon as he left I took them anyway, was not going to miss this. Could not use the 800mm thanks to the grounds manager but in such a hazy day it would not have worked anyway.

With the Baymaster 50-300mm ED 4.5, handheld hidden in the bushes as I had to take my tripod down.

Amazing how it reminds me of the CSS Virginia (aka Merrimac) from the civil war.

London's lockdown so I spent time focus stacking with the light tent, my D800E and the old 55mm 2.8 Micro.

Would recommend getting one of those tents if your are home-locked. It's a fairly affordable way of spending creative time indoors. Approx GBP 50 which includes the lighting.

Lovely thread. I recently got a Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 as my first manual Nikkor and I think it's just great. Looks and feels just perfect on a D700 so that's a combo I can already say I'll use plenty.

I think for starters I'll get myself a little trio of the Micro, the 28 f/2.8 AI-S and a short tele. The 105 f/2.5 AI-S seems like the obvious choice but I do prefer the 85mm focal length. Any suggestions? The 85mm f/2 looks cute but I see mixed reviews on its optical performance.

85mm 1.8 H or HC is the ticket.

Sorry to cast you as an Architect Raphael, you are an engineer though. I confess I own a 50-300 but because of its size, I don’t use it as often as I should. Probably blame the Corvette’s lack of stowage space. (I never pack a tri-pod either.) it’s an AiS dating from 1982. I suppose in the days of this house arrest, confined to quarters there may be time for it. We’ll see!

Looking closely at those photos Rafael I can just make out what appear to be men on the deck. Without that reference the ships seem small but with them you really get a sense of scale. My brother served on a destroyer in WWII but clearly, nothing as fine as what you show... both old and new. I definitely have to chuckle at Peter's comment though because it is reminiscent of the Merrimac with its flat sides and sharp edges. I imagine all of that has to do with evading radar and other scanning mediums. Yes, that would be an exciting place to apply your skills as an engineer. Love the lens photo as well. We know you've gotten great service from that beauty.

I haven't yet posted any photos taken with this setup but I felt inspired this morning to pull out my much loved D700 so I can take some gear photos and thought I'd start with what is mounted on the Df at the moment... I LOVE this lens... the 200 f/4 Q.C. AI, here mounted with the PK-13. The lens is not only beautiful but it is a great performer. I know I've mentioned this before, but as with the 135 f/2.8 Q.C. AI, the larger form factor with this 200 makes it a much easier lens to handle when working close. The extra length and weight help both to hold and stabilize while shooting. Here you go... on my tansu next to a Buddha statue as those who've been around awhile know. I mounted one of my three 55 f/1.2 S.C. AI lenses... turns out I chose the MINT condition lens. What a beauty that is... as Rafael knows well with his ABSURD collection of 55s...

I'll contribute another to the Curtis inspired gear posts.

Just finished a CLA on a Nikkor 5cm 1.4 LTM lens. More of a tear down and get the dust out, lube was good. Gave a good exterior clean and shine including the hood. Using a micro-crystalline wax polish. It really helps with fingerprints and smudges. Provides a good hard finish. Great on knives too.

This chrome covered brass lens should be good to go for another 60+ years

Shot with Micro-Nikkor 55mm 3.5

Longevity is the thing, isn't it George. The question for all of us who appreciate the old camera gear is whether anyone else will EVER want it. Yes, it is true that the advent of so many digital cameras has given new life to old lenses but even digital cameras have become a bit passe when most folks are now relying on the smart phones when they want to play at photography. I understand it, though I've yet to take a single photo with my iPhone that I then sent along to anyone else, which seems to be where this technology shines. My friend Sue is eternally sharing snaps she's taken and uses her iPhone to document prices in stores when she's shopping. But that leaves all of us with GEAR pondering the question of what will happen to it over the long run... the 60 years of life your lens likely has. It is difficult for me to imagine any of the early Nikkors will ever have problems that make them unusable.

I've had this conversation with Ken who lives in Portland. WHO will inherit our gear?

And for something a bit different... a flower closeup converted with Silver Efex Pro 2. I guess when you shoot a WHITE flower, it doesn't make much of a difference. I tried the conversion, playing a bit with filters and sliders and concluded this is nice way to present it... very stark yet voluptuous...
