Took my new rig out for its first session after not shooting for quite some time. I focused on catching BIF. Nothing exciting but Pigeons and Sea Gulls are always good to practice on.

Thanks Paul. That's always the slippery slope, right ? The key to this lens is filling the frame, I believe. And I'm not saying every shot needs to be a closeup, the same goes for environmentals. Heavy cropping is where it begins to fall apart compared to it's more expensive competitors.

absolutely. i'm very often guilty of over-salting with the sharpening...and I know better
i've read somewhere that after we've processed an image we should leave it for a while and then go back to it later for a final look before posting it or printing it or whatever we might do with it. i don't have that much patience...it's processed then saved for print or posting.
i'm guessing that some of the sharpening issues/artefacts(very minor issues at that) here at FM may be that the poster has sharpened for PC monitor viewing or smart phone viewing where the same image posted here looks great on a smart phone but over-sharpened on the PC monitor.
Older females will develop red patches on their shoulders. Kind of a trend in many birds where, as a female gets older, it will start to take on some subtle male characteristics.

my experience is also that and then I have mark I which should be a bit worse perhaps , but good to have the function and if you only get a few in focus it's great
