Taken 3 years ago when I had the 300. I bought another 300 about a month ago, but then Canada Post went on strike. I may see it arrive in a couple of weeks. I may then sell my 100-400 and get the 40-150 to go with the 300.

Tony

good choice
and when you have tested it
think twice if you really want to get rid of the Zoom before you sell it .. is very convenient to have .. certainly 40-150 works quite well with MC at closer range, at longer distances I think it gets a little worse ... spec with MC-20
I also think AF gets worse with MC-20 than with MC-14 on 40-150
Without MC, 40-150 is a very good lens

On 300 f4 it works quite ok with MC-20
with Mc-14 I think the difference is less in terms of quality
compared to using 300 without Mc, but it is good to have the option to use both despite slightly worse performance

The 300 is a really good lens, a little sharper wide open than 150-400 at 300mm though I am not surprised, if it had been the other way around I would have been surprised
a funny thing is ( on my copies anyway) the 300 gives a slightly warmer tone to the images from the start which I actually like more, however as I have written before the Zoom is more useful and the built-in Tc is just so good to have

but I wouldn't want to be without the 300 either in this particular camera system
for the subjects that I like to take

I think you will be satisfied, looking forward to the images

Ronny

Thanks for your experiences and advice Ronny. For me, the main advantages of the 300 prime over the 100-400 are:

1. It is a Pro lens and as such should have better glass and build.

2. It should have faster and better AF.

3. It has over twice as much light gathering as the 100-400 at 300mm.

I would describe the 40-150 as an excellent lens, rather than a very good lens. Also, at 150mm it has four times as much light gathering as the 100-400's f5.6 at 150mm.

I certainly do not want to have all three lens and would prefer that you just donate your 150-400 to me.

you are absolutely right in what you write Tony
40-150 is as an excellent lens
don't want to be without it either
I hope the post office gets it sorted out soon so you get it soon.

First tried the OM1-2, compare to my old EM1-MK3, beside the much faster operation speed (AF tracking, AI focus, bigger buffer, etc), I found the high ISO noise is also better and easier to work with.
