Sebboh, hard to believe the geese let you get that close, great shots too.
thanks, the geese were pretty much settled in for the night and while they were a little miffed about my proximity they didn't want to leave. the pictures don't really show just how dark it was – iso 6400 at f/1.2 and 1/40 s with a little exposure boost in post.

On a whim, I picked up one of the chinese glassless adapters for my Nikon D40 and Rokkor lenses. Obviously, since the adapter is glassless, only macro shots are allowed. On these, I used my MC Rokkor-PF 58mm f1.4 wide open. Good focus is tough as DOF is razor thin. But I think that with some more practice, I could get some pretty good shots. Overall, I'm happy with the adapter and these shots. Not bad for $21.
I use my Rokkor all the time for macro, and I have a really nice macro lens. I prefer to keep the wide aperture and use a diopter, but I use it with a 12mm tube a lot as well. It is also fun reversed...only an $8 investment for a reversing ring.

my 50mm seems as well top be better than the 58mm. more glow, but only visible in 100% view.
it is a great lens
Best, L.
i agree my copy of the 50mm was sharper at all apertures than my copy of the 58mm, which is what i've always heard about the difference between the two. the 58mm has very different bokeh though, which one i prefer depends on the situation. the hexagons from f/2-f/4 on the 50mm really annoyed me and i found the bokeh CA to be worse on the 50mm.
I haven't tried shooting at infinity yet. I had the 35/1.8 and a Rokkor 21/2.8 converted by Jim Buchanan, who sent this e-mail to me about trying to use them at infinity:
"Both lenses are infinity adjusted. The 35/1.8 still hangs the mirror slightly, at infinity. I took the housing down so far that anymore and the mirror frame will scrap the glass. The work around is to use mirror lockup or liveview. When in either of those modes, the lens can still be turned all the way to the hard infinity stop. The 21 has a much smaller diameter rear element, it didn't present the problem as bad. It also may require mirror lockup on infinity shots. If the mirror does hit, the effect will be darkening in the lower part of the frame, because the mirror didn't get out of the way fast enough. This is an unfortunate side effect of alternate lenses..."
