+1

Excellent photos guys. The Rokkors not only produce great bokeh but those creamy pastel colors are really beautiful.

beautiful IR shots mcbroomf.

i went looking for my standard bokeh torture test shot from the 50/1.2 that i use to test all new lenses. haven't done it yet for my newer rokkors since i got them just a bit to late in the echinacea season (will have to do it next year). anyway here is a shot that i believe shows the near maximum level of bokeh funk possible from the lens:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4108/5070946056_0f6607c416_o.jpg
bear in mind that this was shot on 4/3 so the loCA and bright outlines won't be as noticeable on FF (or even 1.5x/1.6x crop). i actually kinda like it in b&w:

yours looks much, much, much nicer. you've gotta get further away than that for maximum busyness though. the flowers look like they're closer to their prime too, is it a recent shot? i never had a lens that doesn't produce something crazy in my previously posted situation (maybe an stf lens could do it).

here are few non-test shots trying to take advantage of some of that character:

does your MD 50/1.4 render similarly to the 50/1.2 out of curiousity?

Yes the Echinea is a recent shoot from last sunday. It was a very close up shot around 0.5m. The MD 1.4/50 renders different bokeh. It does smooth bokeh with the common cats eyes highlights. Good but nothing special...

thanks, it looks like the md 50/1.7 bokeh is actually closer to 50/1.2 than the 50/1.4's. odd since i thought the MD 1.4 and 1.2 were supposed to be based on the same design. perhaps it gets cat's eyes more easily due to a smaller front element to aperture ratio? so much for it being a cheap replacement for my f/1.2. i would rebuy it but i just can't justify having that many f/1.2 lenses around.

one more from the 50/1.2:

yeah, i have a few lenses where i often find myself composing just for the bokeh and have to stop myself and say "maybe there should be something in focus in the picture." this is where liveview is so handy - you can really see what the dof and bokeh will be.

can't really get out of the house to do any real shooting lately, but here is a poorly executed bokeh test of the 3 normal rokkors i currently have: MD 45mm f/2, MD 50mm f/1.7, and MC 50mm f/1.4. it's not worth much since the 45's longer mfd changed the framing for it and of course the wind was blowing so i'm sure the subject to background distance is variable. most of the differences naturally seem to be due to the different apertures. the last is image is from the zuiko pen f 42mm f/1.2 for comparaison to a non rokkor.
