Many thanks for sharing your experience. While looking around for a 58 f1.2, I've also found good copies of the Rokkor 50 f/1.4 which I remember reading employs a similar design to the 58 f/1.2? Seeing that the 50 f/1.4 is about 1/5 of the price of a 58 f/1.2, I'm actually a little tempted to first get the 50 f/1.4 to try it out before spending more on the 58. Only issue is that the 50 is a little too close to the 40 f/2 that I'm currently using...
To keep to the spirit of this thread, I'm including a photo from my m-Rokkor 40mm f/2 WO
Not digital sharp but I really like the way it renders...and of course its size!
the 50/1.4 MC PG has a very similar design and drawing style to the 58/1.2. the main differences are that the 50/1.4 is slightly sharper and contrastier at large aperture, has more brightlines in the bokeh, and has only 6 aperture blades rather than the 8 of the 58/1.2, which makes for uglier bokeh stopped down. i have both but seldom use the 50/1.4 anymore. the 58/1.2 is certainly more of departure from the 40/2 in look.
