Wow! Paul, hello. Folks might think this is all planned or something. But great to see your writing again.
I too had a long break from FM and real enjoyment of photography in general.
What is different now? For me its several things, long story. But when it comes to enjoying the alt lens arena it is bleeding edge mirrorless cameras like the Sony a7RII. This little light box takes manual focussing of the entire alternative glass world to a new and different place. Total game changer, but very dangerous to the wallet...
Hi all, got my A7 in this week and all I can say is WOW!...ive been using a 5d classic up until now...and all those rokkor lenses that i was gonna someday convert can be used NOW!
ive been using the 21mm 2.8,50 1.4, 58mm 1.2, and 85mm 1.7,200mm 3.5 500mm f8 on canon
but now ive got the 16mm, 24mm 2.8, 28mm 2.5, 50mm 1.2, 100mm 2.5, 135mm 2.8 to choose from now also.
manual focus in good light an absolute pleasure with the a7...but my old computer is choking on the 24mp raws...now i need a new computer just so i can process more than 1 raw an hour....ive been using raw shooter all these years and it wont process the sony raws.
I like it alot, picked it up the 21mm on ebay about 5 years ago for around 225 converted, not a sloppy conversion either. I really enjoy it for panos it huge expansive places,i swear one of my best i ever took with it, i had it less than hour, on my way to work with a storm rolling it..when i get to my pc ill try posting a shot.
Th 58 f/1.2 is currently on my radar after using a Rokkor 40 f/2(CLE) for the last year with lovely results.
I can currently find knurled metal focus ring types(S/N 200xxxx, 250xxxx, 280xxxx and also the newer diamond rubber grip versions. If they are all of similar condition and price, which would you guys recommend?

i've used multiple copies of all the different versions, haven't seen any consistent differences other than that the earlyish metal focus focus rings have some radioactive yellowing that needs to be bleached out. i personally prefer the metal focus ring for ergonomics, so that's the copy i kept. http://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2839/33444930980_86d34e946f_o.jpg

Hi Sebboh,
Many thanks for sharing your experience. While looking around for a 58 f1.2, I've also found good copies of the Rokkor 50 f/1.4 which I remember reading employs a similar design to the 58 f/1.2? Seeing that the 50 f/1.4 is about 1/5 of the price of a 58 f/1.2, I'm actually a little tempted to first get the 50 f/1.4 to try it out before spending more on the 58. Only issue is that the 50 is a little too close to the 40 f/2 that I'm currently using...
To keep to the spirit of this thread, I'm including a photo from my m-Rokkor 40mm f/2 WO
Not digital sharp but I really like the way it renders...and of course its size!
