I opted an easier route for mine. Just got an EOS to Nex Adapter and used the adapters already on my CY lenses for my 5DII to adapt straight to my Nex. Doesn't really add to the size but the G adapters are considerably smaller than the CY adapters but wanted to be able to use all my lenses for both the 5DII and Nex so it made more sense. May still get the CY 28. I have some 50s coming in Rokkor, Oly, and OM to try out but woul dstill like a 40ish walkabout lens with high IQ for the Nex.

Philber - It is great to see your shots with a completely different equipment. First and foremost, it is the artist behind the camera that matters, and your shots prove that clearly. Your signature is all over all your shots. Love the first one on the second series. I hear you comment on PP sharpening. I hardly ever notice sharpening artifact from your 5D shots, but from this set, I felt like I see that here and there in the darker area. ( It may be something else. I thought I saw first glance, now I am staring at it, I am not sure what gave me that impression ) . I wonder however, you might want to hold off until you get your 'serious' lens. Kit lens seem to do remarkable job for a kit lens, but it is no CY. I am sure PP/sharepening / resize is different with CY. Anyway, I can't wait to see your C/Y shots.

Thanks, Akul! Your kind words are appreciated! But I need to do something about that PP. I also need to learn how to print this stuff. What comes out of the Sony RAW software is just not any good. I will update this thread as and when I improve. But this little cam is clearly a keeper, the ratio of small package/IQ/useage fun is just too good to pass on.

I PP mine with Aperture 3 and the files look good for me. Granted, I am new to all this and have only used A3 and PS5. Really like some of the B&W conversions from the Nex I did in Silver Efx pro. that program is worth the $300 they charge for the complete plug in set at the moment.

I am going to try to use LR (3.2), and thanks for the support for my NEX 5 project!

Appreciate you sharing these images Philber. The files look quite clean and actually better than I would expect. It's funny that you mention the user interface is quite good because that was one of my concerns. Were you happy with focusing via the screen? I hear it is quite bright and good resolution. Thanks again.

One of the main lenses which I am hoping to use (whenever I buy the NEX) is the CV40. It is super small, fast, and very good image quality. I have yet to see any samples with it on a NEX though....

Actually, for me, the key is the tilt screen. That way, I keep the cam at waist level and look down on the screen, and focusing is a brezze. For MF, you have a 7x and 14x magnifier...
Tonight I picked up a Voigtländer adapter for M mount and a Zeiss 28mm Biogon, so I will know more tomorrow about good glass on NEX 5.

Please let me know about the quality of the Voigtlander adapter as that is the one I will likely purchase.

Philber

Thanks for the pictures, I was planning on getting a NEX. Two days ago I got my adapters for EOS-NEX, Nikon G-NEX, FD-NEX and Minolta to NEX. With my other existing adapters I will be able to use any lens with it but now I need to get the camera. Trying to decide NEX 3 or NEX 5.

Did you get the optional optical viewfinder?

No I did not. I want to keep things light and simple, and focusing via LiveView is fine.

I had the viewfinder as mine came with it and never use it. Only works with the 16 obviously and with the tilt screen and the fact the resolution is so good with the LCD, i found the OVF pointless. The camera really is one of the easiest to use both manually and with using AF glass.

Hi Gary

I bought mine from Rong Jin (jinfinance on ebay). He had a sale on at the time so I bought a bunch for the NEX adapters a few for the G1 and a macro adapter for FD glass on Nikon body.

My existing adapters I'll also use for stacking with the ones above are Canon made Nikon to Canon FD, Leica R to FD, Cameraquest Nikon to Canon EF, Cameraquest Leica R to EF.

I bought from Jin originally on recommendation from Lindy (Mr. Lindy) I had the cameraquest FD- u4/3 adapter but was frustated with it. I tried Jin's and I use it all the time.

For the Nikon G- NEX there is no lever for setting aperature, instead you just rotate the Lock-Open ring on the adapter which will control the aperture. No markings to say what aperture.

By the sounds of it you got a Voigtlander 40.

Thanks for the information Rob. I am still leaning towards the Voigtlander adapter from Cameraquest but wanted some feedback wrt the quality before I buy. It is quite a bit pricier ($179) and I want to make sure it is warranted. And yes, I bought the 40mm SL about a year ago and really love it. I use it a lot on my FE2. Good to hear from you again BTW!

If I was wanting a Nikon F to anything I would go with the pricier ones from Stephen at cameraquest. Other then the Canon FD to u4/3 I have been very pleased with the build quality of the Nikon to EF and other adapters that he sells. Never had a problem with them.

The cameraquest FD-u4/3 I still use but stack it with my Leica R to FD Canon built Nikon F to FD so it is still useful. The problem I had was not in the build but with the way you activate aperture control on th FD lens you had to do a little twist when mounting the adapter. I was able to do it 90% of the time. The other 10% I had to unmount and do it again.

Jason, when DSLRkit do send me the adapter ring for C/Y which I ordered, I will be able to try the 35-70 on my NEX. Though the focal range will be equivalent to 75-105, not my favorite. As and when, I will post.

Actually it's a 52-105 which still probably isn't your favorite.

It's funny though, when I first got the NEX5 for my fiance I thought it would be cool to use the ZE lenses (as most the time I use them wide open for the type of shooting I do) then after playing with the NEX I realized that ZM or M lenses are a much better option. As they have decent to amazing quality and they're small and light.

Adapter is coming for M series.
I'll link to her blog, or post directly from her blog and give her photo credit once she starts using the alt lenses more.

Best,
Adam

Regarding the 16mm Sony NEX lens, I tried two and the shots were so bad, even at f:5.6, that I traded it in for the kit zoom. Pics to follow.

lovely shots, i especially like the close up into the sun shot.

in my experience with the 16mm lens, f/5.6 is not stopped down enough to get acceptable sharpness at the edges of the frame. though as i understand it, even the center wasn't sharp in your two copies? my copy is quite sharp in the center at f/5.6, actually f/5.6 is the aperture where it is sharpest in the center. obviously with such a budget lens there is quite a bit of sample variation. on mine the edges don't become acceptable until f/8 and the extreme corners never become acceptable. i find f/11 to be decent enough for most applications, though certainly not anything to get excited about. i would definitely prefer my rokkor MD 24mm f/2.8 on FF, but my only FF camera is film (someday someone will make a FF dslr that satisfies my needs i hope). anyway back to the 16mm - here are a few samples to illustrate performance. it seems i only use it at night.

corner crop

some bokeh shots. i'm not really a fan of this lens's bokeh - funny things seem to happen in the corners even in the blur. the fog in these shots seems to help it out a bit.
f/2.8:
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1289/5188809556_0d3e9a1588_o.jpg
f/8:

and the same basic shot but in focus:
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1022/5189533087_b478c7ec11_o.jpg
anyway, i'm not particularly happy with the lens, but for the price it does well enough for landscape. there doesn't really seem to be anything else in that focal length that doesn't have it's own problems either. personally i'm not too concerned because it's not really my favorite focal length, i rarely shoot wider than 28mm.
