Adam, sorry to hear your frustrations. Hopefully this won't keep you from enjoying the 50APO and other stellar lenses you have.

As for RF calibration, I though each time it goes back to the factory, they check it, even if you don't ask. At least this is the case with Leica USA. How bad is the alignment out right now?

Maybe they did and the lenses aren't up to spec? I've been so frustrated I didn't even bother doing a very scientific style test with tripods and all my lenses.. The first lens I mounted at the Leica office was the 75APO and it was so off alignment it was an inch behind the focus point (and to save myself from going crazy on the office staff, I just packed up my gear and went out for a nice relaxing dinner).. I then tested my 50APO and found it's slightly behind (less then an inch).. Checked the Noctilux and couldn't focus it... So I just gave up and tossed the 50APO back on and I'm learning to compensate focus (haven't used the other 5 lenses).

I'm thinking about picking up a UWA lens - preferrably in 17/18mm FL. I am ok to consider SLR glass as long as long as it is not too huge. I would not use the lens too often so I am fine with adapting something but would prefer RF glass. I would prefer it to be quite sharp across the frame and would mostly use it on a tripod (landscape) so speed is not critical. I do not want to spend a lot so the 18SEM is out of the question. OM18/3.5? Tamron Adaptall 17mm? Any other advice?

I quite like the ZM18, Gary...coded as the Leica 21/2.8 it has almost no colour on the edges with the M240. I have a Tamron SP 17/3.5 that I can adapt to the M240. I'll try to get a couple of shots for you.

fantastic shots up there, goldfish in the rain a stunner, as were the previous 50 lux shots by zhangyue

Rajastan shots really outstanding too, many other nice ones.

90 trials and tribulations for me

Trying to replace my TE 90. M-hex was really clean, great handling, impossible to focus (copy issue). Yesterday I recieved a bgn elmarit-m from keh, which happened to be 6-bit coded:

L1003665 by unoh7, on Flickr

L1003678 by unoh7, on Flickr

L1003691 by unoh7, on Flickr

L1003767 by unoh7, on Flickr

This copy had some brassing, but at first seemed pretty clean to the naked eye-- glass wise. However once I pulled out the optical pen light, each element seemed to have it's own layer of dust, which may explain the flare I saw in a number of shots. It's going back too, but I am not that sorry, because I don't care for the elmarit-M handling much. My scale showed this one at 405 grams, and of course it's long, so the camera feels heavy. Much much heavier than the M-hex.

I've had some nice bgn lenses from keh--with clean glass, but now I'm a bit shy, so next up is a LN 90 summarit which they had for a little over 1200.

Yes, I've read all the snide reviews. But the story is conflicted--with some claiming the lens is every bit a match for the elmarit-m. I'm pretty sure a clean copy is going to be a match for the bgn elmarit-m above. More to my taste, is the weight, which is less and a bit more compact, if my impression is correct.

In the wings, when I can find one, is the CV APO 90, which I guess Puts claimed was really strong. 260 grams, if at the level of the CV 75/2.5, it would become my landscape 90.

regarding the talk of UAWs, I'm interested in coding my zm18--- but not sure if the M9 sees the leica 18? or perhaps a better option? Considered a new flange, but not sure yet.

I pulled my battery once today, recovered fine. Bottom line is there is no better camera I can afford and carry.

Ron - my M240 was purchased in October last year, probably is the second batch, serial no 4802xxx so yours dates further back.

Adam - sorry to hear about such a disappointing experience with Leica. One thing I'm not sure I understood, did Solms do the servicing or did Singapore do the job?

Love reading everyone's posts and all those glorious lenses you all have. Zhangue, those shots with the fish are simply gorgeous. I'm with Adam - something like that on the wall would be lovely.

Got the CV 75 1.8 lens today and shot a few testers on the family tonight. It's supposed to warm into the 70's for the weekend and I'm excited about shooting in the warmth again.

Michael, fantastic shots! Love the art form of the images
Adrian, very nice
Manoj, I really like the compositions.
Mitch, nice series!!
Joakim, love #1 and 2
Ron, congrats on the M240 You serial number is not too old. I have one also ex demo, serial number 470xxx, and one of the early units also 470xxx. The M240 tend to be very accurately calibrated, and is a pain to send Solms if you need to. With regards to the lens calibration, I have like a master calibration record at Camera Clinic, of both M240's, and they know where to calibrate my lenses to. This is a huge plus, as the lens turn around is typically now only 3 days. I check the calibration before and let them know how far back or forward, and where I wish the lens to be optimized to, and they confirm quickly in the lab, and re adjust quickly. I treat this as part of the maintenance program, and I accept this as I love the RF way of focusing

Gary, I have always like the Oly lenses. Small and light
Charlie, great shots.
Katie, very nice series, including the selfie

Adam, I do hope the situation improves with Leica!!! I must Leica Australia is very good, as far as they help locally. This issue is when gear needs to be sent to Solms.

Ron: Congrats on the new camera. My M240 is a serial 4801xxx, bought in October, and is also a Leica 'demo' model...no issues.

Uhoh7: My Zm18 seems to be best coded as a Leica Elmarit-M 21/2.8 (model 11134) on my M240. It's also easy to code... BWWWWW. On the M9 it may work with only the black marking...the M240 is a bit pickier.

Inspiring photos as always folks.

Sadly, I sold my M8. It is going to a good home however, and its photos may turn up on FM in due course..

The good news is I picked up an M.

Katie: very nice set, #1 oustanding, and the selfie is excellent.

TY for kind words charles, and likes.

update to my 90mm odyssey: I found a CV 90/3.5 for 350USD exe at adorama used dept, so I have it coming too. Stay tuned for battle f/4 f/8 and f/16 summarit vs lanthar!!

Well my ADD prevents a proper test of course, but I will have long range shots in similar conditions from both within a week or so.

Any predictions?

18mm ZM would get my vote (although I've not used it on the M240).

Cal - thanks for the information. I already owned/sold the ZM18 but I think I made a mistake…. Samples of the Tamron 17mm would also be great if you have any.
Ron - my M240 s/n is #444XXX FWIW.
Charlie - that 90Elmarit looks great! I owned the CV90 and it was a great lens - and small. I predict they will perform the same stopped down but the Elmarit will be way better at f/2.8.
Katie - love the selfie. So my kids are not the only Clash of Clans fans?
Ash - great news and congrats! Can't wait to see your pics.

Germany. Leica Singapore doesn't service lenses or bodies (they only clean sensors and adjust RF on M9 and film bodies).

Ron, Congratulation! I, as many others very curious to see how M looks on your hand. The set you posted looks great. Want hear more your opinion about it Though I am not sure my leica journey will stop at M9 or will go further...
I tried visit Leica dealer in both city I visited, Qingdao, there is none, Suzhou, there are two, but there are no M,(last time, there were) only X and a few P&S. To my surprise the Leica displayed with Hasselblad Sony (now I know where those limited woody bodies go) I asked sale people how M sells, they told me there were very few customer ordered M, but very few. I doubt Leica sell as strong as we/you thought in Asia/China. The market is just getting way tougher than it use to be. To the contrary, I found Chinese love big DSLR, I saw so many D800/e, 5DMKII/III, 1D, D3/4 at tourist location, but other than a few NEX no MILC and Leica.

Katie, strong portrait as always.
uhoh7, love that deer shot.
Manoj, very strong set. love it.
Joakim, very nice street set.
Mitch, the #1 looks great.
AshNZ, Congratulation!

I appreciate all the comment and 'likes'. thanks

Zeiss recommends to code it as 24/2.8 asph. You may want to input the profile manually and see if it works for you.

Yeah, I'd be interested to know this too. I always used the 50 Summilux (11114).
I have started using the LensTagger plugin for lightroom. Simply awesome at updating the EXIF with the exact lenses used.

Thanks all for the likes and comments.

Michael: that must be a record to capture a BIF shot using an RF. Nice work.
uhoh7: I loved the third with the deer on the slope. Nicely framed.

Well, no snow here, so a couple more (and there will be a lot more from the same trip) from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

oh and I'm a bit petrified on hearing about Leica service. *Touchwood* everything is fine for the moment. But I cant imagine the logistical nightmare it would be to send it to Leica from my location and have it sent back (which is scarier since I'd have to deal with local Customs)
