Andrew: Great set - the first and last three work best for me. Was it a worthwhile experience?
Jawad: that's a scene I'd probably be drawn too as well... could be interesting at different times of the year.
Phil - Great B&Ws! I think you might like the 50/1.5 Sonnar's rendering for portraits. And it's very small.
Leonas: I always enjoy how the 90AA's rendering complements your images. Looking forward to what you do with the 35.
Gary: very nice! The 90 pre-AA rendering certainly doesn't disappoint.
Charlie: Really like your second set. Very interesting place and the color from the Skopar looks great. Did you do much to the images in post? They don't look very processed and have a nice feel to them.
Thanks Charles!

No, not defecting to Sony, though the RX1 is very, very tempting.

Just buy it I still have mine, no plans to sell. IQ is great but its still too fiddly for me and battery life sucks. If only it had manual focus hard stops, I could seriously use it as an alternative to Leica M for 35mm. I do use AF face tracking and stabilized movie mode for some family pics though.
Yeah, it's not perfect, but it's fun. While trying the a7R I was also loaned the RX1R and found myself using it a lot more. It's just fun!

I've also suddenly become very interested in the creative possibilities of do-it-yourself LED light installations.

Photography related LED lights or X'mas decorative lights?
Room lighting, accent lighting, task lighting... I'm behind the times, I guess, but it's fun how you can stick this stuff practically anywhere. Quality now seems a lot better than what I saw in stores a number of years ago. I'm working on an array of multiple 8' LED strips in aluminum U-channel molding suspended in a semi-abstract manner from the ceiling instead of a regular old chandelier...

Ah, finally a train buff and a nice story Actually, I would have though every other Leica shooter on this thread would be onto modelling trains, so many similarities - craftsmanship, history, hand finished, beautiful, childhood memories, and not forgetting model trains can also drain out the retirement funds akin to photography gear..
Ron, I'm sure you know, the hobby is changing. H0 is still the most popular and I'm sure you have heard of DCC trains and controls? All you need is two hardwires to power up the track (aux power for accessories still required) but with this, you can control boatloads of trains and even program delays and track sequencing. Plus the train sounds and LED lighting add another dimension to the hobby.. might be a good time to clear some space in the basement now?
I got my first electric train set when I was probably 6-7 years old. It was modeled after a British diesel passenger train set. The locomotive and transformer has since gone missing but I still have the passenger coaches. Still brings back lots of great memories....Show more →
If I wasn't pursuing photography as a line of work, I'd probably be in a field related to assembly or making things. As a kid that was my hobby - train set and model kits. I haven't kept up with the model railroad changes, but have caught wind of the digital controllers, etc. Definitely sounds very cool. If you're ever in Munich in the main train station, find the hobby shop on the south side of the platforms - lots of very cool model trains, etc. But I'm sure these stores exist in any large city (though perhaps not in an actual train station)...

I've noticed M 240s are more easily found now... still debating whether to try one for weddings this year.

Buy! Have you tried one? I find the faster buffer and weather sealing alone worth it for pro/assignment work.
Still haven't used one. How much faster is the buffer clearing and how much deeper is it? I seem to recall reading that buffer depth diminishes significantly at higher ISOs, which is where I'd be shooting for a lot of wedding work. Any solutions to the start up and wake from sleep lag? For that I'd probably disable sleep...
