Thank you Joakim, Katie and Adam, for the likes too
Doug, very nice! The 75 Cron is a very under rated lens, and works really well with the Monochrom, and the M240. My preference is the 75 Lux of course. The 90 Cron Pre are brilliant, as is the 90 Cron APO too. I find I err to the 75FL, as it has a MFD of 0.7m, and is more intuitive to compose within frame lines in the VF. The 90 is a small patch in the VF, and is harder to compose IMO. For this now I tend to use LV.
Katie, great shots! Love the first and last one
and the M9! My only point of reference Charles. lol. Well, a 75 Lux may well be better in some ways than a cron of equal age. I'm not as sure about vs the current generation APO ASPH Cron. It may be, and maybe you have used both. For me, honestly, it doesn't matter, I look at the results from what I have in my hand, and if I am happy with it, then that's good enough for me. Plus there's budget. I just bought a 35 and 50 Lux this year. honestly, the Cron wasn't even in my game plan, and then it showed up. I was able to buy a NEW 75 Cron for 3K with a new Leica filter on it, and that included shipping. It was one sweeeeeet deal. I scrimped and craped for that 3K to do that deal, even though it wasn't in budget, the deal was to good to pass up. No regrets in fact, I am SO happy I was able to do it. I planned for a 75 all along, it just wasn't going to be 1 month or less after getting my 50 mm, which I also got a decent deal in used. I bougt my 35mm new before the price increase. I beat several price increases, and saved some on mint used. That's the way to buy if you can, haha. I wish I hadn't bought my 35 when I did, I could have got a used one 2 months later and saved 1K. Oh well, I didn't know. It would have been same source as my 75.
I can imagine what you are saying is true on the 75 FL vs the 90. I admit some of my 90 work was rather much pot luck, I wasn't sure if I was hitting focus or not until I get home and checked it. I won't shoot my V3 90 to much. But for a fairly affordable lens, it is fun to play with the longer focal length some.
Yes the M9 is a brilliant cam The 18MP CCD is becoming more relevant with M glass, as people will no doubt discover with the higher 36MP's as with the A7r, having a shutter speed of 1/250th for a 50mm will negate some of the higher ISO advantage with fast M glass and low shutter speeds.
I apologize also, if the I err to suggest the 75 Lux is better than the 75 Cron APO. The Mandler look is my preference, so of course I prefer the 75 Lux, 50 Nocti f/1.0 and 50 Cron Rigid DR look to the more modern lenses. The 75 Cron is an amazing lens!!
Charles, I live vicariously through yours and Steve's lens selections anyway, haha. You guys rock. Jealous? Well, ok, a little bit. But I can't let petty things like that get in teh way of enjoying the hobby. Just have to be all I can be, and let the rest go. I took no offense from what you said. Not at all...
I also learn a lot from you along the way. I can't always buy the same equipment, but if we all used the same thing, that wouldn't be to much fun, so it's nice to use some different pieces.
Charles, I have seen the difficulty with 36mpx, with my D800E. It's not an easy camera to shoot. Fast glass helps, but still, it can be challenging to get a great shot. I'm more effective with my 24mpx D3X. The 18 mpx is a sweet spot for sure. I haven't shot the M240, it seems to be pretty good @ 24 mpx. I haven't seen much problems from you guys.

35 Lux, of course... I love the lighting on the trees in the last image here, and the red tree of course, it's on fire! Well, not really, but it seems it. I've had a good 2 day run photographing the Smokies. I didn't go today, I rested today.
I meant the colors in Japan. I got there late autumn so I missed the peak and it has also been very rainy because of the typhoons so I wasted a few days indoor .
oh, that's a bummer! Typhoons have a way of doing that I guess. At first it didn't look like we'd have much color, but it has come on finally the last few days of the month.

Does anyone know the S/N range for cron rigid type II?
Most listing say cron rigid but their SNs seem type I...
Thanks

There are some differing opinions here My understanding the 50 Cron Rigid I is with only "ft" markings, and the type II has both "ft" and "m". The cusp of the manufacturing is about 1958/1959, where there was a transition to the type II.
Doug, very nice! Wonderful fall colours, something we miss in Australia!

I've been working around radar issues for too long. I interpreted you as asking about SNR (signal to noise ratio) not simply a serial number!
As for living vicariously through this thread - that's my lot since I sold my M8 and bought an M9 on this forum, with a known defect (SD card unrecognised following a simple firmware update).
It's being repaired through Leica generosity, but requires the change over to a completely new mainboard, screen and SD card assembly. Leica are having QC problems with the supplier, so I am still waiting and had only a chance to take a 2 couple of shots that were stored in the camera buffer, not the un-addressable/unrecognisable SD card, so still I wait...
BTW Charles, I also owned a 50 Cron Rigid DR for a short time before returning it, as I felt mine had too much haze. I admired the exquisite build quality but also could not live with the focus-range limitations on the M8/9, not knowing about Camera Care Clinic's mod option that you cleverly researched!
Now I remember why I get nervous on firmware updates. Many people run out and get updates as soon as they can. I have never been that way. I did update my Leica M9, but now, after this, I may think twice next time!
Thanks Charles. It's one of those images I just needed to look at and think about creatively to make it what I wanted it to be. Processed in Silver Efex Pro II.
FYI guys, a PROBLEM ALERT with NIK SOFTWARE AUTO UPDATE - I heard that there is a problem with a recent update of software. It seems to be an auto update, from what I gather. It makes it so you cannot edit your files from Lightroom or Photoshop. it requires a fix. Maybe they will get it fixed before it crashes others? I don't know...
My system has not updated as yet. So I don't know why that is. Personally glad it hasn't. Apparently if it updates, you are supposed to see a new Analog option. Apparently if you have the complete package: you will see that the new "Analog Efex Pro" software. Is what I was told by someone... I thought I had NIK collection. So, that makes me curious why it didn't do this to me. I don't have an answer.
Weird question.. I'm thinking of getting a pelican case for my M240 / 50APO / 50Noct only.. As those are the lenses that I foresee keeping for the long hall (and the ones I'd most likely take on short trips). I know that they can all fit into a 1400 case. BUT I was wondering if I decided to keep/travel with the following lenses, what case would I need if anyone has experience (hard for me to judge, you can't buy them here, I'd have to order online).
Oh and one more question.. I just updated my OS to Mavericks (it was just there and I clicked yes), and now lightroom has gone monochrom... As in, any of the color buttons, and color sliders don't show color anymore. Makes it REALLY annoying for adjusting the hue sliders, as now I have no idea which way I'm going and which colors I'm getting.
Any ideas what's going on?
