always great images in this thread..
I haven't been posting for awhile because I was actually busy taking pictures with both m8.2 and my new(?) m6 classic.
here are some from 911 tribute light show from NJ Liberty State Park taken with M8.2, 35, 50 summicrons.
The #4 photo is actually a crop from photo #3... I thought I was getting ripped off buying expensive Leica glasses but I realized one more time that there are reasons behind the premium..
My dream camera now is m9p chrome. hope the price will further go down after m10 availability..
Not that m8.2 is doesn't meet my needs but wish I had more pixels...
Ajay, thank you! What a trip We look forward to some great shots of course.
Dgenx, stunning series of shots! Great work with the M8.2... who needs the M9-P
Shots from this afternoon review and critique session at Foto Frenzy, with two pros, Ian Poole and Cam Attree, with the M-M 50 Nocti f/1.0 at f/1.2 and 1250 ISO.
Charles, I like the expression in the second shot.
dgenx24 - Last shots really neat, I rarely do long exposure's with my cameras (never with the M9).
Ok, now what's your take on the M10 and ME? If the ME has better iso then the M9p then it's pretty cool in my books, since they stuck with CCD for it. Though honestly, I'm curious how they managed to get the price down? Still using old M9 parts, or cheaper parts? And maybe they're using the same sensor but with different noise handling algorithms?
As for the M10, I think it's great, seems to be big though, will probably balance well with R lenses, although the prices for R lenses are going to jack up for those who don't already have them or M counterparts. Love how Leica pulled out all the stops, gave it focus peaking!! Can finally re-buy and use the 50 1.5 Sonnar with great accuracy
I'm probably going to get the M10 assuming there's a huge senor improvement over the M9p (else I'd just keep the M9p because LV and video really isn't worth giving up the SEXY SEXY look of the Mp9). In my opinion both the ME and M10 aren't as nice looking as a M9p... My biggest annoyance at this point is that Leica put silver buttons on the black (and dark green? for the ME) camera bodies WTF?! Also, wanted to mention that I like how the M10 no longer has the frame line window, guessing LED like the M9Ti...
It's still early, but my guess is the M-E will essentially be identical to the M9 in terms of image quality and operational characteristics, though I guess with some slight changes. Leica implies it's quieter (it's assumed they're comparing it to the M9). If the electronics remain essentially unchanged between the M9 and M-E, my opinion is the new M(10) will definitely be the camera to get. While I like the overall look of the M9's images, I don't like the random banding I still get with mine, the sluggish buffer, slow start up time... A stop or two cleaner high ISO would also be welcome.
I'm pretty sure I'll eventually get the new M. Had Leica revamped/improved the M-E's internals considerably over the M9, then the decision would have been somewhat more difficult to make. And perhaps this is a reason they didn't. Anyway, I currently don't feel the need to be the first on the block with the new M. There are a lot of changes in this camera and I'll probably wait to see what our early adopters here (Joe and Charles ) experience with it.
I'd also like to see Leica borrow the mode 2 'Predator' peaking focus assist found in the GXR...
Thanks Adam
Thanks Andrew for sharing the news!!
Ron, yes early adopters
Seriously, I am amazed that Leica have really listened to most photographers. The M meets all my wish list and more. Just have to make sure the specs, really stack up in the production units. As with the purchase of the M-M, I sold my M9 on ebay before it would depreciate any further, I now have on order the M, which I have been told will be available April 2013, maybe sooner. If the production M unit has better IQ than the M9-P, I will then sell it to fund the M. Even though the M may have more features, if the IQ is not as good IMO, I will defer the new M.
Anyway a test shot from this morning with the M-M, 24 Lux and red filter
Ron, I'm on the fence about the GXR peaking, I like it for fine tune focusing, but feel that it distracts from spur of the moment image making (good to have both I suppose). Also, I think I'll be first in line if the timing is right
Andrew, it's gorilla glass, same stuff the iPhone is made from if I'm not wrong. BTW, weather sealing is another plus, but how do the lenses stack up, since they're not weather sealed??
Adam, congrats on the 35 Cron Asp Very nice lens, and amazingly sharp. Have a great trip!
I agree the weather sealing on the M is a big plus. It is probably more critical that the body be weather sealed, that once the processor/electronics has shorted, that is it. I know a number of times I have had my lens drenched from being caught in the rain, and I just needed to leave the lens to dry for about couple hours.
The gorilla glass is probably not quite as good as sapphire, but if it means keeping the cost down I am all for it! Just place a screen protector if needed I suppose
Charles, some excellent shots with the Mono lately! Very nice landscape and portrait work.
Michael, glad your M9 is back and hope to see some of your new pics when you return from China.
CD, very sharp pics with the 24/3.8!
deang001, those Macau shots are excellent. Love the subject separation on the 3rd 28 Elmarit shot.
Adam, very interesting set of abstracts and doors. Nice colors with the compositions.
Mascerny, nice shot of the cab driver with the 0.95!
dgenx24, nice NYC sets with the M8.2.
I agree with Ron, I have all the same issues with my current M9 as Ron experiences and if all Leica did was to beef up the processor of the M-E, I would seriously consider "downgrading" I'm interested in the M(10) at the announced price point. Ticks all the right boxes for me plus more than I need.
The fact that there is live view makes the new M so much more useable, for instance I can also use an adapter with LV for macro or tilt shift lenses. Plus 1080p 25fps full frame video with Leica glass, now that is a first, but only time will tell how good the camera is.
I'm hoping the ISO6400 is useable on the new M, but even if its clean 3200, that would be good for color work. I guess I'm already spoilt by the high ISO ability of the M Mono, probably akin to the same feeling Nikon shooters had when the D3s came out and brought low light shooting to another level? After shooting comfortably at ISOs 2500 to 5000 on the Mono, going back to ISO1250-1600 on the M9 was difficult.
The built in meter on the M Mono cannot work at these lighting levels. Even my Sekonic meters could not meter at this level, but it sure brings low light photography to a different level for some M users.
Dgenx, cool shots of NYC!
Charles, consistently posting great images
Joanlvh, nice to see another local Leica shooter!
Joe88, nice MM shot.. cool set of synthesizers!
Charles. thanks for the cmmt. I envy your MM.
yes I don't need m9p... but maybe the M.. lol
Adamdewilde. thanks! is there a reason why you never do long exposure with M9?
Joe88. thanks for the cmmt!! that iso10000 looks like iso1250 on my m8.2
So the new M will be available in April next year.. that's almost almost like a year.. lol
I will be upgrading my M8.2 in a few months. Now I'm not sure whether to get the new M or m9p chrome that I always wanted...
I've seen mint m9p chrome for sale at $5200 recently.. that's crazy. because I haven't seen anything below 6 grand till couple weeks ago..
The new M looks just like my e-p3 especially with that evf... hum.,. hope they have some sort of cover for that connection port when evf is not in use..
But I'm quite excited that shooting landscape will be so much easier with LV.
I was never comfortable shooting serious landscape with M8.2 so I've been using my canon for that..because it's difficult to keep the straight horizontal with wide lens using external ovf..
anyway below shot is taken at Zion national park visitor center.. with M8.2, 35 summicron
Hi, I am Leica and RF newbie. Have been using various zm, leica and voigt lenses on GXR. I am a frequent viewer of this thread. Come here daily.
Last month I rented the M9 for one day, trying to experience the true RF shooting. Go round shooting in order to learn more about the camera. I must say I really enjoy the experience
