Ryan, thanks Really nice set, particularly of the sunset!
Jonas, nice shot!
Gary, yes I am enjoying the 50 Nocti IV, but most of all, I am just learning how to use it! It is a lens, not too different from the the 75 Lux, that it almost takes a month or two to really get a feel for it
Gary, Charles, rsolti13,
Thanks for the comments, love all your shots!
I think the 90mm is too long for me, its very difficult to get tack focus wide open on non staged subjects that are moving like people etc.
I am thinking a 50mm would help, I love the idea of the Summilux ASPH 1.4 but its pricey any feedback on the other 50mm Leica lenses?
Thanks
Doug, I'd go for the 50 Lux ASPH as an all around 50mm if you have $4K to burn. I tried out a 50mm f/2.5 Summarit at a Leica store and thought it was a really nice performer. It's sharp wide open and IMO has a nice rendering quality. But bang for the buck would be the Zeiss 50mm f/2 Planar. Rumor has it a new Leica 50mm Summicron will come in a few days, so it will be interesting to see how that one performs. Expected price is a bit over $3K. Were your images above with the 90 Cron pre-AA? I like the look from it, particularly the second one and its background as well.
Charles, looks like the Nocti is a versatile performer. Love the sparkly quality of the bar shot and the look of the last landscape.
Gary, adding to the collection?
Ryan, the 50 Lux shot was to qualify for this thread Cool sunset!
Jonas, very nice, that's my kind of image!
M9 & 50 Lux x2, 28 Cron x2 - last image is another one of those images within an image someone has pasted to walls around town (the bluish-gray rectangle).
Ron - I really, really like the looks of the 28 Cron. It looks to be such a good all round performer and the focal length is ideal on an M8. Yes, I did add the 90 Cron to the collection as I found an absolute mint copy locally for a ridiculous price. I also didn't have in my possession a lens close to that focal length so I was forced to buy one...
Ron, thanks Love the strong composition and bold colours! Favourite would be the last shot.
Gary, forgot to mention, I really like the 90 Cron IV, even better than the Asph on some levels! The 90 Cron IV, has the long throw, and I found it easier to focus than the Asph version and it has the wonderful classic look.
Doug, another vote for the 50 Lux Asph, for the modern look, and maybe a 50 Cron PreAsph, for the more classic glow.

Haha! Looks very nice and will be interesting to read your opinions on it vs. the Nikkor. I thought you had the CV90 f/3.5?
Yes, the 28 Cron is a wonderful lens. I never really considered myself a 28mm guy, but it's a logical position between 21 and 50 and I've been enjoying it a lot. For a wider lens, it has very nice subject separation at near distances and wider apertures. It's also one of the current Leica lenses that seems to come available used fairly frequently and at reasonable (for Leica) prices. I think last week there was one posted on GetDPI for 2100 Euro, though not 6-bit coded (I guess it would add another $300 or so for Leica to code it?).
28 Cron:
21 Lux @ f/1.4:
28 Cron @ f/2:
50 Lux @ f/1.4:
don't remember the exact aperture for this one, but maybe around f/2.8:
While the 21 Lux vignettes quite a lot wide open, and is very strong in the extreme corners, the 28 Cron seems to vignette a bit farther into the frame wide open. When shooting the same scene with the two, I find the 21 Lux images are always a touch brighter at equivalent apertures.
Charles - that is good to know. I really don't know how much success I would have with a 90mm lens which has a shorter focus throw. This one seems to be quite a nice lens.
Ron - did you really need to point out that fact? My wife may be watching this thread! Yes, I now have the 90 Cron, 10.5cm Nikkor, and the 90mm APO Lanthar. I will use them all for a while and then sell of at least one... Problem is that I like them all!
Ron, Thanks for the heads up on the New 50 cron on its way wondering if some 50 Summiluxs might drop a bit in price? Yes the images were all made with a pre AA 90mm Cron.
Charles not sure I could afford 2 50mm lenses I think the 50 Lux ASPH is on my radar just need to find one thats used and not selling for more than new!
Really appreciate the input from all of you guys.
Thanks again...
Thanks Charles! I agree, the 28 Cron looks very nice in the comparison. In this scene it feels less nervous to me than the 21.
Andrew: wow, two copies of the 28 Cron in a week for under $3000! It would almost be worth a $200 flight to NYC to pick up in person and an excuse for some shooting too.
Doug: If this new 50 Cron is reality and is at around $3300, it will still be a stop slower for *close* to the price of the Lux. I highly doubt the Lux will go down in price (on the used market). If anything, it might drive more demand for it since some will figure adding less than $1000 will get them another stop. Personally, it would have to be a pretty amazing lens for that price. I justified the 50 Lux and 28 Cron in part because at that f/stop there aren't lower priced optically competitive options. But for an f/2 50... the Zeiss is no slouch. I feel similarly for 35 f/2.8, 35 f/2, 35 f/1.4, 24/25 f/2.8.
Regarding used 50 Lux prices - one just sold for $3500 on GetDPI, though the seller was new to the forum, didn't post any images, etc... I would suggest keeping an eye on the Buy & Sell here, but also subscribing to the GetDPI Buy & Sell RSS feed. A high percentage of the gear being sold there is alt, with a fair portion being rangefinder.
I was given one to use on my 21 Lux and it has made a considerable improvement IMO. The 24 Lux might be similar, but with the 21, the focusing and aperture rings are too close together and too similar in feel. But what I'm getting at here is you might want to try it on the 90AA. It will increase the circumference of the focusing ring and in theory a longer travel distance, which might allow you to fine-tune focus more precisely. I'm thinking of getting one for my 90 Summarit. The only downside is it will make the girth of the lens larger.
KL - I approve . The Voigtlander 35 f/1.2 II is one of my favorite lenses I have used on any system. It is a downright steal at $1,300.
Ron - Good catch on the image that has been posted around town. That is pretty neat. I really like #1 and #2 from your latest set above with the 28 Cron. I love the rendering of that lens. Oh, now I see a set with the Nikkor 10.5...wow, very nice. Particularly like that Nikon shot!
Gary - That duck is making a mess out of that table . The 90 Cron should be fun, looks to be a very sharp lens with a pleasing out of focus area
Charles - Wow...what a unique looking shot. Only a Nocti . Perfect use of that lens. I automatically think portrait lens with the Nocti but you found a great subject to use it on
Picture-event - welcome, and nice shots from Hong Kong. I really like #1 and #4
Here is the last of my vacation shots.....35 Nokton II all of them again.
Thanks Ryan Much appreciated! Again beautiful set of shots with great lighting. Interesting to note how different the lighting is compared to Australian east coast.
Sorry, haven't been following the forums lately. Great shots all ! .. and apologies for not keeping up and not commenting on some of the earlier post.
Luka, excellent shots from Denmark. Composition on #1 & 2 are my favorites.
Ryan, very nice shots with the CV 35 II. I like the cool pastel colors on these shots. The earlier sunset shot you posted is beautiful. So did you decide to keep the M9 or have you sold it?
Alexandre, nice street shots, 4 & 5 are my favorites.
Charles, congrats on the Nocti 1.0, love the rendering on that tree shot. Excellent composition on the earlier tree set with the 1.0. I'm browsing from bottom up, and I initially though that tree and foliage shot from the previous page with the 1.0 was shot by Luka
Ron, wow that Nikkor 10.5 rocks!! Love those recent shots you posted recently. Rendering on this lens looks really nice. The earlier set with the "Convenient Food Mart on the 50Lux is excellent!
Gary, nice shots with the 90Cron.
KL, great street shots as always. Looks like the storm troopers have also invaded Singapore?
Too busy to shoot lately, so these will have to do for now. M9 and my humble CV 35/2.5. I coded it to 35 Summarit and the red edge is less visible now. 1st @ f/2.5, 2nd f/4.
A quick introduction - I'm moving to M setup although I'm waiting for the next
generation M camera. Right now I decided to buy all the lenses as I'm leaving
for a great trip soon. Even if I don't have an M camera yet, I will enjoy
my new glass on my NEX-5N cameras.
Last night I received a lens which completes my setup - APO-Telyt 135 f3.4
This is my favorite focal length at the moment and I wouldn't give it up just because
it's difficult to focus on M9. I have to assume it will be much easier on my M10
Anyway didn't have a chance to take it out much, just a few quick snapshots
to show you guys the rendering. It is difficult to focus, for some reason, even though
it's f3.4, the DOF is extremely shallow. To get the full advantage of the amazing
resolution, you basically have to use a tripod.
The sharpness is out of this world. But that was expected. What I really like
is the look. I was warned it would be quite neutral, but to my eye it's close to 90 APO-Cron.
The bokeh is beautiful and it's an APO, only a trace of CA can be detected.
It's also higher contrast than my CV 125. I will take it for a spin soon, but for now,
just a couple of quick shots:
