Thanks Hilmar, Dan and Joakim, much appreciated
Dan, I am looking forward to more of your shots with the 21 SEM Interesting your comment, about how you feel with the 21 SEM, it is basically the same feeling I get with all the Leica line up, in particular the Lux's
Playing with the value of frames to an image: Using the border to bring out a highlight color where an image is lacking perhaps in overalll color, due to winter say... It takes some extra effort, but maybe well worth it in the finished product.
I love the reflective lighting picked up on the trees on far side of river. The depth of the 24 lux is just tremendous. To me, it can make even an average shot, way above average in the finished product.
Philippe, thank you Yes I do realise the Leica M thread is very restrictive, and I do think it is time that on the FM forums, we have a separate thread as in Fuji, Sony and Leica M's that would capture everyone's interest in the M mounts. It is Paul Yi, that initiated the thread, so only he can modify the title I do feel it is time similar to other forums, where alt is too generic, and at least like GetDPI, there can be a number of threads initiated on the Sony's, Fuji, Ricoh and Leica M's.
I feel that if no contribution has been made for 12 hours, the thread become relegated to the back pages.
Doug, very nice shot! I do agree there is a magic with the 24 Lux, that I don't think viewing on even a well calibrated monitor does justice.
Well, IMO, Leica is larger than 1 section of Sony or Fuji, or Ricoh, or... IMO, Leica falls right at the back of the majors as far as popularity worldwide. It should be recognized as such, and given it's own playground. Growth would come, other members that tire of one image thread and want to talk hardware too, would come. I did write it up in the forum to ask for it recently, but it needs to be reiterated again and again if we are to compete with the Canon Juggernaut.
Charles, I have been known to shoot some glass sometimes, it's interesting how many different looks you can get from same piece with lighting.
Charles, great shots, I particularly like the last one
I'm back from Salvador, Brazil but I did very little photography. There were a lot of interesting things to shoot but unfortunately the safety situation makes it very risky to go out with expensive camera gear. So I only took a shot now and then.
Doug, I agree. Shooting with glass is fun, as it so lighting dependant
Luka, thank you
Welcome back. Wow...brilliant street shots!!! Love the bright vibrant colours and how it really captures the mood of the people. Favourites here are #2, 3 and 1 in that order. Excellent PP'ing style too
Brazilian cities are very photogenic because of the vibrant colors the houses are painted in and because of the diversity of the people on the streets. Even the favelas hold a definite attraction to a photographer. Unfortunately it isn't very wise to go out with a camera you don't want to lose. So in my case my M9 was actually a hindrance. So I did very little photography. I should have known better - this was my third trip to Brazil - and brought along some camera that I wasn't afraid to lose. Perhaps a medium format film camera...
I am not sure I want to go anywhere quite that volatile Luka, but the photos were interesting. I say insure your gear before you go. I don't have my lenses insured, but my M9 is insured. I may insure my 24mm though.
It looks a little scary there with the police militia going down the road in combat gear. yikes.
Doug, nice scenes with the 24Lux. Time to add the 50Lux ASPH to the collection!
Jonas, nice pp to your M8 40/2 shot.
Joakim, nice sunset with the 24 Elmar.
Charles, excellent still shots with the 75Lux.
Luka, excellent scenes from your vacation. Bravo for shooting out in the streets with the M9 and your M lenses. #1 & 4 are my favorites.
Anyone pre-ordered the Fuji X Pro? Looks like a very nice alternative and/or complement to the Leica M considering Fuji will supply M mount adapter.
Thanks Joe Yes, I have a Fuji X Pro1 on order, after getting a call from Camera Exchange in Melbourne who have ordered 20 last week. I am second in line No commitment yet, but it does look like it is shaping to be be a great cam. My choice would still be a GXR with A16 M mount module. I have the NEX 5N, and it will be sold soon, as the ergonomics and quirkiness just don't gel with me.
Luka, I have always ventured into areas, where there is a risk with camera gear being taken, but I rationalise in that a camera is to be used. I do go into those areas with just a single lens and M9 though
Mike, very nice portraits! My favourites are #1 and 2.
Charles, funny you should mention the GXR... I just received one today, but of course with the A12 module. Too early to really get a feel for it, but one thing does bother me about it - it locks up for a couple seconds after each photo to clear the buffer. I thought that was only a problem back in around 2000 with cameras like the Canon D30. One can do up to four in rapid succession, but of course then the camera is out of commission for about 8-10 seconds. At least it's faster than the M9's buffer.
I decided to go ahead with the A12 (found it used) in part because rumour now is that Ricoh might delay the A16 in favour of the new 16MP APS-C zoom module, and the rumoured K mount module.
Favourite GXR features so far: 'Predator' mode magnified focus assist and the truly silent electronic shutter mode (though it is easy to induce the rolling shutter jello look).
I'm on the fence about the X Pro 1. I like that it seems to be pretty responsive (6 fps), but am uncertain how well Fuji will implement a magnified focus assist feature for alt lenses. But if the supposed upcoming 14mm f/1.4 that the Fuji rep at CES disclosed it true, I might have to just to compare against the 21 Lux on the M9.
Mike, nice set - I particularly like #2.
Welcome back Luka - very vibrant set and like the repeating rooftops.
