Nice abstract Charles, something we don't see from you very often.
corposant - definitely a vintage feel to those. Re: purple boardwalk, I think that would be a 5 second fix in Lightroom by tweaking the hue setting for purple or magenta and/or pulling down the saturation for those same colors.
Edwin, nice family photos. These will be great reminders to look back on down the road as your kids get older..
A few portraits at the university here in town... Tried to mix it up a bit in terms of lenses used, including the CV35 f/1.2 II, ZM50P and 90 Summarit. Also shot a fair amount with my 1DIV and 70-200 on strobe. In hindsight, could have shot a lot of that with the M9 & 90 instead. Some of the scenes were backlit and gave the AF fits. Had to use live view in a number of situations to ensure accurate focus. My guess is the rangefinder would have worked perfectly
Starting off with a couple of the same composition from the CV, the first is either wide open or f/1.4, the other at f/2.8. Interesting how much of a difference it makes. Also, the wide open shot is not critically sharp on his face. The focus is actually a bit behind, and I'm still having problems with this. Either it's due to focus & recompose, or the lens has some field curvature towards infinity at the edges. I should clarify that wide open focus is accurate if the subject is dead center. The f/2.8 image though is tack sharp. It makes me a bit reluctant to place subjects off center with this lens when shooting wider than f/2.8 due to the uncertainty of where the focus actually is... Is this also a problem with the 35 Lux?
Same area, 90 Summarit:
A more traditional academic setting with the ZM50P at f/2.8:
Thanks Ron Very nice set of portraits! My favourite is the last shot, excellent angle, lighting and composition. I also like the fall off into the darker back ground
Nice photos everyone! I have a quick question, I'm considering a used M8, is it likely that I'll need a diopter if I'm slightly nearsighted? Is it possible to use the camera with glasses?

Yes, I know - on days I shoot film, I like to pretend things like LR (and all digital PP) don't exist.

This is why I don't really like to F/RC on anything wide open that won't be in center of the frame. Without being an expert on the technical qualities of the CV35ii regarding FC, assuming you're about 10 feet away to get him to fill the frame at 35mm, you're creating about foot of DOF every time you stop down. I would think that would explain it. If I am correct, I don't understand how having the 35 Lux would help here - you're just too close to him. I'd rather be looking through the lens in this situation.

i use my M9 with glasses on all the time, no diopter, but i'm the opposite of your situation coz i'm far sighted

i am also nearsighted (like around 2 or something).
Glasses work perfectly with the M8/M9...
IMO much better than on DSLRs where I needed a diopter.
Charles, nice rocks. The horse shots are great, print and you can hang it on the wall
Alex, i like #2
Luka, the water looks so inviting in those shots...i dont mind swimming with the ducks nice captures
let me share a few shots from today...our usual Sunday family lunch out...
M9+35lux asph...Charles, now i agree with you that this is a stunning lens. I just need to be mindful of the PP and i can pull out a different output with simple tweaks in LR3
Luka, those last two ones are really good! Abstract, while you can still see what it is.

I have a new approach for low light with the M8. If I shoot at ISO 160 and the slowest shutter speed I think I can handhold, I get lower noise when lifting exposure in PP than when cranking ISO in-camera. Maybe something for the M9 crowd to try as well? It makes very much sense when you look at this: http://sensorgen.info/LeicaM9.html
Some from yesterday and today with the Summicron 28, all wide open...
