Joe, thanks Much appreciated. Nice shots, particularly with the 28 Cron I curious to see how the 90 Summarit ranks.
Najibs, fun shots!! Nice action capture on the last shot.
Ron, love your shots of airports Very nice angles, particularly #4 and 6.
Okay, finally got sometime with my new M9 and the 28 Cron (what a lens!!). Second outing with the M9, school keeps me extremely busy. Intentionally shot some images wide open / MFD.
Just some random shots around my leafy neighborhood. Careful contrast edits and a few WB adjustments. Love the colors that I am getting out of this lens. Just unreal!
Been out on a work trip for a week or so...catching up this morning. Unfortunately I didn't have time to take a single shot (picture that is ). Not going to mention everything b/c it's been about 10 pages but....
Ron - great sets. Love the military wasteland shots you found
Charles - great set as always...the portraits definitely stand out. The beach shots are great as well
Nate - great shots and good to see you over here
KL - great to see something even though it may not be your M9 . Great interview with Luka as well. I knew that one wouldn't fail to impress
Joakim - nice shots from the forest. Great to hear your issues were just SD card related
Luka - great shots as always. Great colors on some of those buildings...especially the first on page 305
Najibs - really like the last shot you posted on 305...very nice
Joe - some great shots from up in the Northeast. Lighthouse shot is great. I have honestly only seen it once before . Did your trip end early b/c of Irene? What a media hype, huh?
Ajay - congrats on the M9 and 28. It's all downhill from there
some leftovers before I left....
50 Lux
90 Summarit (MTFs show it isn't in the same league as the Cron AA but it is extremely sharp if you ask me)
Great location shots and portrait Charles, I can't imagine it's much fun on that beach head when it gets really windy though
M9 and 18mm Distagon, no blends, no bracketing, no adjustments to exposure or saturation in post.
Actually no, I lie, there is a blend. I blended two identically (1.5s) exposed shots for the foreground rock since the first had better water and the second had more detail in the foreground rock as the water receded.
Ryan and Dan, thanks guys
Ryan, excellent set with your magic 50 Lux Great to you back
Dan, great shot!! I really like your PP'ing techniques. Yes, you so right, it is a pain the wind on the headlands, as you can see from the windswept trees.
Thanks Ryan, yep it's about 15 mins from my house.
Thanks Charles, I hope it looks less nuclear on other people's monitors... having a wide gamut monitor means things tend to look very saturated on my monitor. I have a standard monitor next to it that I often drag shots onto just to make sure it's not TOO out of this world
This guy was enjoying sunset, hovering on the updraft off the dunes for the entire time I was there (more than an hour!)
I don't think we give the M9 much credit for what it can do at higher ISOs. The following shots were at ISO 640 and 800. Yes, its not D700 or 5DMII but the general consensus seems to be to not move it much higher than 160
all shots with the....what else.....50 Lux
it gave me so little grain....I added some in post
Actually no, I lie, there is a blend. I blended two identically (1.5s) exposed shots for the foreground rock since the first had better water and the second had more detail in the foreground rock as the water receded.
I usually hate when people quote pics but this deserves it. Wow. I would buy a print of that.
Ajay, nice test shots with the 28Cron.
Charles, another excellent set with the 28Cron and 50Lux. The 28Cron shots are stunning!
Ryan, welcome back. More nice work with the 50Lux. Love the first two shots of your daughter with the 50Lux. BTW, I shoot the M9 at ISO1600 all the time
Daniel, stunning landscape shot!
Dierk, excellent composition on #1! Nice set with the 50/0.95!
Ron, I find the 90 Summarit "decent" enough for me although I have not tried the 90Cron AA Its quite light for a 90mm lens. I do use the hood all the time based on reports of flare I read elsewhere. BTW, those airport and train shots are excellent
Here's another with the 90 Summarit when I went back the next morning.
Thanks Gary
Ryan, top quality portraits. I also don't hesitate to crank up the ISO on my M9 for portraits or events.
Great portraits Dierk, I really like the first one!
Joe, beautiful sunset sea scenery, any filters?
Joakim, interesting photojournalism, good stuff
Ajay - looks great! A nice lens to start off with, and certainly a popular one around here.
Charles - I really like the subtle colours of these beach photos. It feels almost like a painting. Nice portrait too, though looks like your fiancee isn't so keen on being in front of the lens so often.
Ryan - welcome back! very nice around town set and I really like the images of your daughter, particularly the last two.
Dan - cool sunset! Also the previous one you posted.
Dierk - great portraits and mood in those images!
Joe - that's a stunning image. Both versions are very enjoyable on their own. One is crisp and cool, the other warm and glowing. Glad that the 90 Summarit is at least 'OK'
joakim - cool opportunity and images! but they didn't take you out for a highspeed cruise?
LL- nice one of Chicago. There for a visit or just in transit?
Some more train pix.
Newark airport:
Newark Penn (just passing through):
NY Penn (probably the ugliest train station I've been to yet):
Joe, Joakim and Ron, thanks, much appreciated
Ryan, beautiful shots...50Lux!!! I agree about using higher ISO if needed. I often use ISO 640 to 800 for night time shots, but as Ron suggested in another post, it is really the quality of lighting that counts.
Dierk, really nice portraits, particularly #1
Joe, excellent shot! Love the lighting and mood
Joakim, very nice set with a story I would normally imagine a 35 Lux is better, but the 50 Lux is great here. In the shot above with the 28 Cron, I used f/5.6
LL, nice shot of Chicago!
Ron, your sets are outstanding in graphic, composition and PP'ing. Great set
LL, I was in Chicago a couple weeks ago for only an afternoon (football game) and the weather sucked - three lines of thunder storms, so I didn't wander around. On the way back to the parking garage at Michigan and Roosevelt I noticed a pretty cool sculpture exhibit, of dozens of headless/armless figures: http://chicago-outdoor-sculptures.blogspot.com/2009/03/agora.html I'll be back the weekend after Labor Day and plan to check it out in more detail. It looks quite promising for some interesting photography.
Charles, yes, I think quality of light matters a lot. I'll try to shoot at ISO 160 as much as possible, but will raise the ISO if needed. All of the images below were at ISO 640 in order to allow me to shoot around f/8 for decent depth of field and zone focusing while ensuring fast enough shutter speeds for shooting on the go.
In Manhattan:
All ZM35C. I kind of muffed the first photographer shot, a bit blurred, but still kind of like it. I guess the two photographers are standing in front of B&H. The funny thing is I walked right by it and didn't notice. The sitting guy with the old camera caught my eye. It's possible he's there as a prop for the store? Not sure, didn't stop to ask, though he thanked me for taking his picture. He might have meant it sarcastically because I didn't ask and just walked off after making the frame.
