I think most of you may have seen this, but watch out for SD card problems especially if you shoot in continuous mode. Leica actually said not to format your SD cards if it works? Crazy.

Excellent pictures Charles, Ryan, Joe and d.topp !
Ryan, thanks for the detailed write up. Was able to find a brand new 50 lux (hopefully have it by the weekend). I think I'll enjoy this setup. Planning on a two lens set up, for now. I know it will not be the case. Still getting over the sticker shock of the camera
I like the 28 Cron rendition, but 35mm is a focal length I really enjoy. Choices, choices! I also plan to do some landscape work, for which I think 28mm FL is better suited. Just take it easy for now, and enjoy the one lens set up, till I get a better feel for the 50 lux.
Btw, if anyone is interested, 28 Cron is in stock at a few places (Dale and Adorama).
Thanks for all your help guys. Much appreciated. ...Show more →
I went with 21/35/50/75, all ZM except for the 75 which is the Voigtlander f/1.8 (I also have the Voigtlander 15). I find I use the 35 and 50 the most, followed by the 21, then the 75 and 15, though it really depends on what I'm photographing. Based on my experiences over the past 9 or so months with the M9, I'd probably reconsider with a 28/50/90 kit if the 50 was the central lens in the set. I also love UWA, so a 21 or 18 would be a mandatory addition for me. I don't think I could be comfortable working with fewer than 4 lenses.
Lots of great images guys. Sorry for not posting anything recently or commenting much on the images. I'm on the road and just haven't had much time to go online (though couldn't resist talking about gear).
Ryan, Joe and Ajay, thanks Much appreciated!
Ryan, nice shots! I really like the dreamy feel to #1 Great synopsis of lenses. I agree if you have the 35 Lux Asph I, that is a good copy and works well, absolutely no reason to get version II, which tends to be harsher.
Dierk, excellent still life shots! I particularly like the composition of #1. Also very nice pet studio shot. You have great lighting in your studio, and would really appreciate if you could share knowledge on your setup
Joe, congratulations on your new 75 Lux You sneaked this in very quietly! Very nice shot and love the lighting
I have had one time where my M9 froze, and it was with a very new SHD card. I have not used it since, and have had no problems so far. I do feel that it is important that Leica embraces the issue, and moves to come up with solutions as they did with the WA red edge issues. Work in progress is much better than ignoring the problem.
Thanks Charles & Gary but unfortunately the 75Lux was a borrowed lens. Its really nice to use but I probably won't need it enough to get one at this point
Gary, missed your post from the previous page. Nice shots with the M8! The 2nd pic is my favorite.
Charles, I agree, Leica better get their act together on these issues quickly. What's bad is that they tried to blame it on the user and even worse, collaborated with Leica Forum to hide the problem. Really disappointing. I've also had my M9 freeze a few times when it was clearing the buffer, but thankfully I have not had any card problems with the Ultra and Kingston cards I use.

Joe, don't believe everything you read. The guy that wrote that blog post is just a troll. The moderators got fed up with him after he posted 20+ threads in the M9 forum with titles like "WARNING: DO NOT BUY THE M9" or "THE M9 WILL DESTROY ALL YOUR PICTURES" or "WHY LEICA SHOULD STOP SELLING THE M9" and similar. So they closed down/deleted the threads and gave him a link to the "official" SD card complaint thread that has existed for quite a while with lots of people reporting problems with SD cards. After that he started complaining about being censored and about a grand Leica conspiracy. Honestly, had I been a moderator at LUF I'd ban him.
I'm the last person to defend the Leica forums - there is a very vocal clique there that can't stand any criticism of anything related to Leica. In this case however the response was very moderate and in my opinion handled actually too gently.
Here's by the way from his latest post from his blog - you can judge for yourself if he is to be considered serious or not:
http://www.gillavi.com/blog/equipment/fuji-x100-during-rainy-night-in-new-york/
Many people are saying that compering the Fuji X100 to the Leica M9 is stupid, and they are absolutely right! The Fuji is a camera that will save the great pictures you take on the memory card, while the Leica is a camera that will destroy your pictures and memory cards.
Saying that, The Fuji is much more cohesive with the original concept of photography! and since it can save the pictures it takes, it’s a much better camera than the Leica M9. Nothing to argue about. The Leica M9 though, is much nicer male Jewelry if you are into all that x fashionable metrosexuality thing....Show more →
As for the SD card problem, it's been well documented for quite a while and Leica has been promising a fix. It's still unclear why it is happening as most users (me included) have never had any such problems - even when the same brand and type of cards are used as those that do have the problem. It is a serious bug which they obviously need to fix. Canon had a similar problem with the 7D when it was released and they fixed it in the second firmware update.
Well written? It's only a long litany of complaints, persecution complex and demands for Leica to stop selling the M9. Not precisely what I'd call interesting. Plus they are grossly misleading as he makes it appear as all M9s suffer from this problem.
What it has succeed in doing is attracting the attention of Leica haters world wide who seem to enjoy it very much.
I take it you are not insinuating I'm a Leica hater. I hold no special preference towards or against any camerea brand. I've been tempted by the M9 myself. I just found his experience interesting, as well as Leica's responses and actions.
No, I'm insinuating no such thing. I'm just explaining the current temporary popularity of that blog. That it is not unbiased against Leica is easy to see - him calling the M9's for jewelry for metrosexuals is for instance a giveaway. So the only way one can trust such heavily biased reporting is if one subscribes to the bloggers core ideas (i.e Leica hate) - at least if you've read through all of them and not just the first post about where he discovered the problem (that post was OK).
Joe - nice portrait with the 75, like the conversion
Dierk - nice still lifes and shot of the dog. I really like your pp
Regarding the card issue, the thing that I think stinks about the whole issue is that people have been complaining about that problem for some time and Leica has not taken action on it until one (extremely) vocal user stirs the pot. There have been plenty of mentions of this issue in the past, its the way this guy got his message across that really got their attention. If Leica would have looked into this issue 6 months ago they would have saved themselves a lot of aggravation. I personally have never had an issue
Luka, thanks
Ryan, very nice shots! Love that 50 Lux I do think each Lux, is somewhat different wide open, and have their own personalities!
I can appreciate the SD card problem from Leica's perspective too. Very infrequent problems, in their eyes, and I am sure trying to duplicate the problem has not been easy either. It is an issue Leica do need to address though and hopefully fix with a firmware update
Luka, thanks for clarifying on the writeup. I don't normally visit Leica Forum for the same reasons you mentioned so I probably missed out on all the details (and tone/language)
Ryan, nice "yellow" set. The cones shot is my favorite. Looks like the 50Lux is stuck on your M9
Regarding Gil Lavi and his statements. As Luka says he's nothing but a troll. Also quite funny how has a photo of himself posing with his man jewelry(a Leica that is) at his homepage.
Hi All!
Great photograhps, I observe the thread regularly!
When recommending lenses - I have the feeling, that when you advice 24/25 focal - you underestimate LEICA 24mm ELMAR f/3.8.
I have two questions ;-)
1)
I've heard a lot of great feedback about 28mm SUMMICRON, especially color.
What about 28mm f/2.8 ELMARIT? Do you know if it gives similar picture?
2)
I wonder, how much quality would I gain by trading 90mm SUMMARIT for 90mm APO-SUMMMICRON APSH.
I know, that at f/5.6 probably nothing. But in f/2 - f/2.8 area?
