Those lines... it's banding I get it pretty regularly as well. I haven't come to a definitive conclusion, but I recently did a quick test. I shot sequences at ISO 2500 to fill the buffer, then left the camera alone until the red light went out, and repeated a few times. These generally had low indications of banding. Then I shot sequences where I filled the buffer and continued to shoot as the buffer cleared. I don't remember if I also reviewed images during this time (something I suspect is a cause). Most of the images captured during the time the camera was already busy clearing the buffer have banding, and it seems to get worse the longer I continued to shoot.
Considering your circumstances - photos of a newborn - I wouldn't be surprised if you were pushing the camera to the limit. I certainly would be.
I'm hoping that by the time I'm in a similar situation as you, I'll have an M10 with a very deep buffer.
50 Planar: My suggestion for people photos - be cautious with the amount of contrast, but especially clarity applied in LR. For urban landscape type stuff I tend to crank that a fair amount, but for people photos, especially women and kids, I tend to leave clarity at zero. But I like the look of studio portrait on white.
Charles, great stuff from Thailand! I haven't been there yet, but the urban design reminds me a lot of Taiwan.
KL, are you only getting out at night looks like fun!
Luka and Boris, thanks for the comparison tests!
Joe: great work with the airport series, both the random images and the variations on one location. If you go for the 90AA, maybe I could be persuaded to take the 90 Summarit off your hands... While I like the CV75 f/1.8, it could be sharper for more technically demanding images and I'm also starting to lean towards a lighter 90mm solution for walk-around/travel type stuff.
Like Ryan, I've been keeping up with the thread, just don't have as good an excuse Lots of great images from everyone!
More from Lausanne:
(A somewhat surprising and 'un-Swiss' scene of decay to stumble upon in a relatively tourist-centric town)
I haven't noticed any of those lines you and Ryan mentioned. I hope it stays away from my camera!
BTW, great pics from your "vault" All nice, slight preference for #1, you're a master of diagonals! A ruined building in Switzerland? haha.. rare indeed and why was that entryway on the left painted yellow-ish?
Nice work Ron. I do get out in the day too, haha - some shots
35 Lux ASPH v1
Zeiss 21 Biogon
28 Elmarit
I get the banding quite frequently - Hve not done a proper test but I am 80% sure that using "C" continuous mode does increase the banding. So I mostly use "S". Read somewhere that it's got to do with increased electrical activity causing interference so using up the buffer is another exsample of a likely cause.
Thanks Ron & KL for the tips...you may be right. I know I hit my buffer limit a few times and obviously I am shooting in C mode. Ron, the ZM Planar I increased contrast maybe +5 on some...clarity stayed at 0. VERY different than my other Leica glass. Still need more time to play with it
Ron - Nice shots from the vault...#5 is my favorite.
KL - #1 is a very nice shot. Love the rendering of that lens
Gregory - great set! My favorite is the flower shot #7. Though I do like the father/daughter riding bikes very much as well. I too have been intrigued by the 135mm lenses and am thinking about picking up the f/4 version. They are dirt cheap. Your copy looks extremely sharp....how is it to focus with the goggles? Does the camera become very front heavy with it attached?

Holy colors, Batman! Those Velvia shots look really good Heinz. I have to scan me some Velvia - I've got a 135 and a 120 roll waiting for scanning.
finally! I am posting those scans only to tease you and get you to scan some of your Velvia shots because I can't wait to see them
Ryan, congrats again! Very nice shots! I really do like the shots with the 35 Lux
Ron, thank you Great shots, and compositions! As Joe said, master of using diagonals
KL, excellent set of shots! My favourite is the B&W shot, #1 from the second set
Gregory, really nice set!! Excellent colour contrasts!
LL, very nice set!
Luka, really nice set with the 90 Cron AA. Love the composition of the B&W shot. Great shot
Heinz, great stuff with Velvia colours! Looking at these shots almost makes me want to try film again
Luka, thats old DiMAGE Scan, the original Software that came with the scanner. I have tried the alternatives, namely Vuescan and Silverfast, but found DiMAGE scan being the best. Unfortunately its 32bit and has to run under Rosetta, so you can't do much else than scanning at the same time.
Thank you Charles. Why don't you? It is for sure a lot of fun.
Hi everybody,
the shots are looking excellent as always. Right now i am in the middle of my trip in Turkey shooting just film and am having a blast.
I hope to have many shots for you guys soon. I do have one problem with my Zeiss 21 Viewfinder.
The glass element closest to your eye is loose, it moves back and forth when I shake it and turns if tried to rotate.
Does anybody know what the problem is and if this affects the magnification of the vf at all?
Great work everyone.
Is it me or do those chrome shots jump off the screen?
Yes I got a hold of a very clean copy of 135 Elimarit from Vintage Visuals.
I have allways thought that the 135 2.8 was a very cool lens and one that I have always wanted to try since seeing Leica Brochure from years and years ago. Physically the lens is longer and narrower that I thought it would be. And it not what I would call light. The aperture is positive and it's got a really sweet built in hood.
I wish I coild report it was a pleasure to use on the M9, but it's not. But it is usable . While it's not a dark tunnel the view finder is somewhat obstructed and I am having a heck of time framing anywhere near where I want. Perhaos I just some practice?
At any rate the focus is ultra smooth and accurate near as I can tell on the M9 . From the results I have had and the lens is sharp wide open with a beautifull smooth bokeh.
And while practicing with my trusty Vivitar 285 tonight I am getting some incredibllt sharp images @ F 16/22.
Earlier tonight I mounted it on the Leica M3 and it was ... .Let me start off by saying that and I hate people that exaggerate. With the Mr magoo goggles of the 135 2.8 Elmarit 135 2.8 is the best thing ever. Compared to the M9 the image is big and bright and as well as being completly unobstructed within the frame line with the 135 2.8 .
Clearly this lens was made for the Leica M3. What a combo.
More on the 135 2.8 Elmarit later for now here are some images.
