I hope that Carsten doesn't overhear this, but I'm really not crazy about posting a set of completely random images. I prefer each set to have some kind of connecting thread but for the past week I have not really managed to collect any coherent series of shots with any type of theme.

*blink* *blink* Did someone say something?

I do think that shooting in a more focused way helps to make the results more coherent, and deeper, more probing, but I do really enjoy your shots on this page.

Congratulations on the 90AA; I hope you like it as much as I do. I hope that you will find that in its sweet spot, its look approaches the 50 Lux ASPH a bit from the general direction of the 90 Cron.

Thanks, KL, Michael, Boris, Gregory, Joakim & Carsten

KL, nice shots with the 90 AA. You clearly do know how to take good duck shots

Michael, lovely landscape shot.

Boris, nice shots with the 50 Lux. I especially like the bee one. To be honest I personally prefer the Zeiss 50 MP & 100 MP for wide aperture flower closeups. The Leica bokeh is a bit too tame and smooth for my taste.

Gregory cool shots! Love the look that cat is giving you.

Joakim excellent tree shots! I'm green with envy of them. You all know of my liking for duck shots, but I have another more powerful obsession - taking wide aperture photos of trees. I don't post many of those, but I can't help myself - I always take them and try to get some interesting look. I seldom succeed with it though. I wasted almost a whole roll of Velvia 50 on unsuccessful tree shots. Those two that you've got there are just perfect!

I don't know what you are talking about.

Anyway, I promised some Tri-X shots. There are from the very first roll on the M6 - the one that I thought I had ruined completely (it turned out that only three and a half images were gone). All shot with the Zeiss 35/2 Biogon.

So we'll start with half an image

My favorites are #1, #2 and #6. Very nice look to them. When the sun completely overwhelms the tone scale in an obvious way, like in #5 on the ground in the distance, I like the look less, but I guess digital wouldn't have done better.

Thanks KL & Carsten. Yeah, the DR is definitely better with film, at least as far as highlights go. #2 for instance would have been impossible with digital.

Luka, KL, Gregory and Joakim, thanks guys
Luka, superb series of shots!! First set, IMO I do like the stronger PP'ing. These shots would be ideal for printing! Excellent B&W series with the Tri X 400 film. There is a definite advantage using film for highlights and range of tones. Great shots, all of them! Congrats on the 90 Cron AA, truly a great lens to own
KL, great shots! Love that portrait with the 90 Cron AA. Obviously shot wide open, near MFD. I really like how the lens renders around the face! Very nice shot of the duck too
Leemik, nice shot.
Boris, beautiful soft rendered shots What a great lens the 50 Lux Asph
Gregory, very nice cat portrait!!
Joakim, nice tree shots

Thanks everyone for the earlier comments, much appreciated

Phil, excellent bench and boots shot a few pages back. The tonality on the boots shot is superb!

Ron, thanks for sharing your insights into the photographing at Pearson's. You're a brave person, standing at a spot for 10-15min! I either fear security would approach me or someone would complain and I'll miss my flight home if I stand at a spot too long. Over here, I normally shoot a few shots and then move on or do some other things such as pretend to talk on cellphone or fiddle with the camera. Else, I walk away and return to the same spot a few minutes later if the background is interesting. BTW, nice pics from Lausanne sans homo sapiens..

Heinz, excellent Ektar 100 shots! Love the composition on the "Reflections 1106-1" shot.

Boris, very nice shots with the 50Lux ASPH.

Ryan, excellent posts as always. The 50Cron shots are really nice!

LL, very nice shots with the 90CronV3 and 50Lux ASPH!

Luka, lots of excellent pics, the car tail light shot with the 28Cron really stands out, nice lines and contrast with the red and white. The composition and colors on the last M9 set .. wow, really really nice! Plus ..cool street shots with Tri-X, #4 & 5 are my favorites from that set, nice tonality. Congrats on yet another new toy !

Charles, I like the panning effect on the 75Lux shot a few pages back! Excellent portrait study as always! Last but not least, the 90CronV3 profile portrait is superb!!

Gregory, very nice and interesting car series! Cool self portrait!

Joakim, cool beach shot with the flip flops! The flowers and tree shots are also beautiful. Lots of detail from the 50 Lux ASPH.

KL, excellent shots from London!! That couch shot is great, nice work with the mixed lighting!! The duck shot is really original

Cory, very nice nautical series. I like both the 50Cron shots very much, especially the first one with the shallow DOF!

------
As to some of the earlier discussion on the Plustek scanners, I have a 7600i and its a great scanner for 35mm negatives, very sharp and nice scans, even more so considering a Coolscan 9000 cost 6-10x more nowadays. Although, I kind of regret not getting a Epson V700/750 because I need another scanner for my medium format film.

------
Been away for work for a few days and just got home. Here's one from Fells Point, Baltimore MD. 35Lux ASPH

Another very nice set Gregory! Love the texture and rust. The stairs shot is really cool!

28Cron, 50Lux ASPH

Took a detour on the way from Pittsburgh to Baltimore and finally made my pilgrimage to Fallingwater. A thunderstorm arrived as I got there, else I would have spent more time exploring the grounds and taken more pics. As I was on a business trip, I brought along my smallest bag, the Domke FX-5B and it got soaked. Luckily the M9 survived. Will definitely return. I could live in this house forever.

Edit: I took this shot of the visitor center in the background just before it started to rain heavily. 28Cron.

Thanks Charles, corposant & Joe

Joe, nice 'cheeky' shot Great shots from Fallingwater as well. I'd love to visit it one day - it's one of my all time favorite buildings.

corposant wrote:

Much worse than that - I opened the camera before I had rewound the film completely. I was lucky though - only a couple images were nuked.

So, now it's your turn to get the Noctilux

Thanks KL, Boris, Luka

Boris, very nice flora series from the Bavarian forest. Curious, was it the lighting or did you use Auto WB as the greens in #1 & 2 have different hues?

Luka, nice work with the M6 and Ektar100. #1 is excellent, lots of implied meaning in that shot! Nice "L" composition on 2 with the purple stairs .. and yes you should visit Fallingwater at some point, you'll love it. It's also one of my favorite houses of all time. FYI, the region surrounding Fallingwater (Western Pennsylvania) is very beautiful, lots of rolling hills, forest, parks, rivers, old barns, and early 20th century towns and architecture for you to take pictures.

The lighting was very different. The first image was shot just before sunset with an overcast sky and the second image was shot three days later on a very sunny day at late afternoon. I used manual WB in LR for both images.
