I have the 28 Elmarit - the results from the 28 Cron are great, but the one thing the Elmarit has on the Cron is size and VF blockage...
Yes, the 28 Cron hood is horrendous! I think I also under-estimated the performance of the 28 Elmarit ASPH on FF, but I don't regret getting the 28 Cron.

Phil, those cars are awesome and the photos really make them gleam. Curious about your statement about not liking to go stronger than ND.9. Are there problems with color shifts, or other image degradation? It would seem to me that a .6 on an f/1.4 lens might not be quite enough in full on bright sun with white subject matter... (assuming ISO 160 rather than pull ISO 80). I realize you're at f/1 on the Nocti...

Ron Thanks
yes color shift and whites seem grayed out, yet I can adjust in post, so that helps. But the overall feeling of the photo seems to be off key for me anyways.
Thanks Gary, Malkovic, Charles! Ron, I have the 35 Lux ASPH I. The PreASPH is a much softer lens that has a major glow. The 35 Lux ASPH is extremely sharp wide open with of course the modern coatings.
KL - Congrats on the 35 Lux ASPH I! You will love it. Very different than the 50 Lux ASPH from what I have seen. Great set. I like the last two best. I love architecture shots like the 2nd to last one.
Malkovic - you are doing great work with the M2. I love the colors you are getting from the film
Ron - nice set. I love your style. I like #2 best with the triangle shadow leading the way to the bike. #3 is also a great shot with the Audi.
Liquidpics - nice set. Great colors with #1!
More 28 Cron shots from a couple weeks back. I haven't been able to get out for over a week so my supply is going down. Will need to get back out soon

Ryan very nice two sets! My favorite is the "Cointy Police" shot in the second set. I was also intrigued by your 35/28 ASPH comparison. A really dramatic difference. As you said that they were taken on different days I wanted to see how a comparison taken with the same light would look.
These are without PP except for a equalization of the white balance in both shots. Shot in manual mode so the exposures are the same. The light was the worst possible - mid day and direct.
35 Lux ASPH @ f/2:
28 Cron ASPH @ f/2:
As you can see the results are pretty much the same as you got. I then started wondering how the difference would be stopped down, when at least some of that vignetting disappeared. I also took two shots with 5DII - one with the Zeiss 35/2 Distagon and one with the Canon 16-35/2.8L II (@ 28mm). Of course, cross-camera comparisons should be taken with a grain of salt but this is what you get directly from the cameras without any PP:

KL, excellent set! Difficult to pick a favorite as they're all great, but I think the bridge shot.
Ron I really like both sets. In the first one, I like #3 more than #2 as the composition is more balanced. In the second set the last shot is my favorite.
Leonid, I really like the B/W shot with the X1 - great composition!
Thanks Jojo, Chareles, Ron.
Liquid pics stellar work. There is just some excellent photography on this thread by everyone. It inspires me to keep coming back.
Rosolt, Love the 28 2.0 shots.
Iv been struggling with the M9 but have started to find my way this camera. While Im getting some decent images, my enjoyment of the M9 has been tempered with the feeling of insecurity while using it. But after a good talk with my pal , I came to the conclusion that the problem is me and not the camera .
To me nothing beats the "feel" of the M3 and the MP or even the M7 with a motor drive. And I guess the "clunky" feeling of the shutter is something that I am not really digging. Iv head that some have taken there shutter apart and sone some sanding. Perhaps that is something I need to look into.
Im using 12 without viewfinder (lost in a spring snow storm) which dosnt make it easy. So I find my self often taking 5 shots to get one.
And switching lens back and forth is a pain.
While I havnt seen my recent film shots with the M3/MP, I feel very greatfull to still have them
close at hand.
This M9 camera makes me feel like a beginnner. Which is good thing. Except for all my mistakes insecurity and feeling like a begniner. Ha ha ha. OO
For the life of me I can't figure out the the rhyme or reason of the meter?. I have lost several shots working in aperature priority and won't use it anymore. So I am going full manual from here on in.
Today, I am going to go do some street shooting and meet some people and we will see how it goes.
tx for the kind words all. Luka, this community owes you a debt of gratitude for sharing your findings! The colours on the 28 cron are really something else! The 3rd last pic is my fav - wow!
Lovely shots Ron, Ryan, Greg, nikkorais, liquidpics and GenoDM.
Luka - glad to see I'm not the only one seeing a big difference . Of the 4 I like the 28 Cron shot the best and with the DNG files you are able to pull enough detail out of the shadows that I would think that would make it an ideal landscape lens. I'm curious about the colors of the 50 Lux ASPH...is it closer to one than the other (28 vs 35)? I would think it is somewhere in between slightly leaning towards the 28 Cron. Nice shots, the rendering of the 28 Cron is so smooth. My favorite is the dock with the 2 benches
Geno - nice shot. Love the colors
Gregory - great diverse set. My favorites are the Noct shots....particularly the puddles in the dirt tracks and the shot after with the pipe and wires. On the last CV 12 shot....is that a lens sticking out of a camera or are you just happy to use your M9?
KL - great shots! Looks like Singapore has a constant haze around the city, is that right? I like the face on the guy in 'Drive By' . My favorite is the last shot. What is your early impression of the lens?
The haze you see is the windscreen/window of my friend's extremely dirty car. The 1st shot also looks hazy as it was taken looking out from an office (so it's through the glass).
most of the time, the air quality is very good and looks like this (this was also shot through bus windows)
Luka, more excellent shots with the 28Cron and another big plus for the ducks. I agree with both you and Ryan on the 28Cron colors compared to the 35Lux ASPH.
Liquidpics, nice shadows on that building shot with the X1, also like the 3rd pics with the chairs on the second set and the B&W are very nice.
Joakim, nice shots from NYC! The kids at baseball practice is my favorite. The 2nd & 3rd shot from the first set is also well taken, nice perspectives. 3 chargers for the M9, you might have set the record!
Ron, nice bike shots! The last vertical composition on both the first and second set is really excellent! Great pp as always.
Ryan, more excellent shots with the 28Cron. Love the shadow play on the Country Police truck shot.
KL, congrats on your 35Lux ASPH v1! Glad you are enjoying it and an excellent first post, love the composition of that shot under the bridge with the man and bird, well seen. The drive-by shot is my favorite on the 2nd set.
Malkovic, nice color and comp with the 50Cron and Velvia. I think I need to start shooting some film again
GenoDM, nice flower shot. Care to share some camera or lens info?
Gregory, I felt similar when I had to send my M9 back to Leica for repairs last year and ended up shooting film for close to a month, when I first got the M9 back, I didn't really enjoy the M9 as much as my M6 TTL and film.. but slowly, I got hooked back into digital, purely for the convenience and also because I was getting comfortable with SEP2 for B&W work and didn't miss my Tri-x too much. I'm already seeing much punchier colors from your last set with the M9. Those 50 Noct shots are gorgeous!

I kind of agree

Joe - nice shot with the Nokton. Do you still have that lens? Just buy a mac and be done with it
Ryan, I sold off the Nokton to help pay for the 2 50Luxes . Looking back at my Nokton shots, sharpness wise, there isn't that much of a difference between the CV and 50Lux but the 50Lux wins hands down for bokeh smoothness and rendering.

Finally got my Dell PC and LR3 running this evening, still fine-tuning but looks like I can post pics again I will definitely consider a Mac for the next upgrade.
Haven't shot much last 2 weeks because of all the frustrations with my computer but here's 2 pics from my ride home from the local bike shop earlier this week. Strapped the M9 and 28Cron with me
I got the 28Cron sometime in April... back before you and Ryan did. I was sold on this lens immediately after Charles posted his shots with this lens last year.. only that I had to save some $$ first There were some shots posted quite a few pages back.
Great shots Joe! Where have you been lately? Too busy with buying/selling leica lenses?
Luka, Joe and Ryan - again, thanks for the comparative comments/images of the different lenses! awesome to have a resource of talent and information - quite vital when the lenses are that expensive. Can i ask whether you find the colours of the 28 cron more punchy than real life? I know this is hard to comment on since you really need to be viewing the PP right in front of the scene, but from your recollection would it be fair to say the 28 cron is the closest to reality or it is 'augmented' reality? I find the 50 lux quite accurate colour wise and the 35 lux asph v1, slightly muted and dreamy (a look i like). For example, my 28 elmarit has great colour in my view, and is perhaps a tad punchier than real life colours (again, just my impression as I have not actually studied this at the point of taking a picture).

Ah, right. I mixed things up.

I'd definitely say that it can go in the 'augmented' reality category, but these things are hard to judge as the camera and the eye have very large differences in both color perception and dynamic range.
Thanks KL Too busy with repairing a brand new Dell computer which crashed twice and the second time required a brand new hard disk
Although buying and selling Leica seems like a good idea given that the prices of used lenses keep going up. I also won't be surprised if Leica will raise prices again soon since raw material prices (and oil) keep going up.
The 28Cron has the punchiest color of my 28Cron, 35Lux ASPH1, 50Lux ASPH but its definitely less contrasty than your 28Elmarit ASPH. I don't know if the 28Cron is closest to reality as color is subjective? I'll let the others chip in with real world test
Here is the 28 Cron color compared to Zeiss ZE 28/2. Sorry, the framing is not great, I did not intend to post it anywhere, originally. White balance is done off the same spot on both.
