Great shots all. Luka, another excellent set - spectacular compositions
Charles, wow - gorgeous portrait!
Ryan, great pics ! Sorry if I asked this before, that's the 35 Lux ASPH V1?

Just a couple of shots today from me.

Cheers

50 lux ASPH

A shot i always wanted to take (ArtScience Museum and Helical Bridge):::not driving today

Attended a kiddie fashion show with my daughter. Thought I would just practice my focussing on moving targets - not easy especially in the dim lighting. Overall, I would say I got enough well focused shots not to miss AF.

butterflies in my stomach:::before the show starts - 50 Lux ASPH

90 Cron APO

This little kid mastered the look:::90 Cron APO

Shy but still game to model:::kids can be too cute - 90 Cron APO

Phil, you might want to add a 50Lux ASPH to the collection at some point. If you like the 50FOV, you need to give it a try.

KL, with regards to carrying film through X-ray, make sure you hand carry them. If its ISO 400/800 or below you should be fine for at least 7 to 10 X-ray passes, but it will fog up if its a 1600/3200 or pushed film. There are many opinions and I was also worried initially and asked around, but recently I carried a roll of PortraNC160 a a few rolls of Delta 400/HP 5 Plus round the world (forgot that these were in the bag) and probably after at least 15 to 20 hand baggage scans, the colors still looked good. You can get an X ray bag if it helps. I also had 2 roll of HP5 Plus accidently checked in on the way back from Kuala Lumpur to Boston and it turned out OK but I won't want to do it again.

Ron, you should give the 28Cron a try, but be careful, you might end up with more than one Leica lens . The CV 28/1.9 is also a very nice lens if you can find a used one. Has some veiling flare to it but still an excellent buy. Stay away from the CV 28/2 Ultron, from what I've seen and read, has focus shift and is very poor at the corners even when stopped down to f/8.

Luka, nice set! The 4th shot with the 90Cron is my favorite from this. Since you shoot so much, I'm kind of using your pic post to see if I can tell the lenses apart before looking at the EXIF. On this set, I could immediately tell #1 was with the 50Lux ASPH, its just an almost perfect lens, the fine sharpness on the foreground blades of leaves is amazing and that was my tell tale sign. But I could not really tell the other 3 lenses in the set. On #2, I see some modern as well as some classic DG rendering, only the FV gave it away as a wider lens. On #3, I initially thought it was the 50Lux ASPH, but then its lacking is some detail, wasn't sure until I looked at the EXIF. On #4, this one renders superbly, somewhat similar to #2, only the framing gave it away as a longer lens, ie, your 90Cron. Again, this is just my own opinion, just trying to have fun and learn a bit on a Sunday morning

Charles, really excellent portrait, you've captured the calm personality well! .. and the pp is spot on. I really like the 35FOV for these type of environmental portrait work.

Malkovic, ah my favorite coffee.. umm sorry, meant film Nice B&W!

Ryan, nice set with the 35Lux. #1 & 3 are excellent! #3 really screams Leica magic.

Edit: Think we posted at the same time and I didn't see it earlier. Nice set KL! Like how the composition on #1 leads to the car eventually. Not bad at all on the focusing!

Ron looking good, where are her arms?

Denoir that last one for me, the greens pop with the very earthy color tones in the BG, nicely rendered Sir

Wow Charles, now I know why you are the portrait king here, excellent humbling mood

Malkovic Very nice DOf and bokeh grain, really goes well with the focal point, share more

rsolti13 lovely colours, def. 3 for me, this stuff is right up my alley

Singletrack wow the lighting is superb here nicely done

I'm sure I'll eventually end up with a few Leica lenses, but at the moment am not in a rush to spend the money

A friend is a Zeiss and CV dealer here and had both the ZM28 and CV 28 f/2 available for me to compare a couple months ago. Big difference, as I may have posted a while ago. The ZM has great resolution and contrast. The Ultron is softer and more dreamy. From a technical perspective it's not that strong a lens, and I noticed the focus shift issue and relatively poor corner performance in the comparison images I did. But, it could still work nicely depending on the expectations of the photographer. My preference was the Zeiss. I have not tried any of the Leica 28s so can't comment on how those options compare.

Luka, nice continuation of the previous set. I'm partial to the first image.
Ryan, nice use of color, lines, etc.
KL, I agree that MF with the M is not all that difficult for objects moving rather consistently. Funny how we have become so dependent on AF. But it's one reason why the M appealed to me - I was getting tired of AF missing in supposedly easy situations.
I really like the first image, in part due to the placement of the single car. You were in a moving car when you made the photo?
Phil, great feel in that image! Not sure what happened to her arms...

A couple bench shots. First is ZM21, the second is ZM35C

Luka, Malkovic, Ryan, KL, Joe and Phil, thanks a lot guys
Malkovic, nice shot! I agree the tones you achieve from B&W film is amazing. I am now finding printing digital, that it is a lot easier to print colour than it is B&W. Yes, you can print shots, but to get the tones right consistently does take some work
Ryan, very nice set! I really do like the 35 Lux rendering in these shots
KL, great set! I love #3, 4 and 5. There is special feel to these shots. Great capture with #1 on the move Couldn't agree more about MF on moving targets. It does make you think a lot more about DOF and preparation of where the focus tab is.
Phil, love this shot! I feel like I have gone back in time If you ever get tired of the 50 Nocti, just let me know
Ron, very nice! #2 is my pick

Phil, nice vintage B&W.
Ron, cool bench shots, nicely framed.

-----
Today we had a nice break in weather, and I decided to take the M9, M6 and Rollei 2.8E for some pics of the family. It was one of those days that I want to forget quiclky. At the destination, switched on the M9 and SD card was missing. So I took out the M6 TTL and the batteries were dead and I did not have any spare. Figured I could use Sunny 16, loaded a roll of Portra, and after a few frames, the bottom cover of the M6 fell off as I didn't put it back properly during loading Finally shot a few frames on the Rollei and called it a day. So, no new pics for today. One from the archives. M9 35Lux ASPH

Joe, my understanding is that color neg films are more tolerant to overexposure Sorry! Been in a similar SD card predicament before, but luckily remembered that I had one in the SD slot of the 1DIV...

Very nice file photo!

BTW, in your recent street sessions in Boston, have you been confronted by any angry citizens? I heard about a quite unfavorable recent Boston TV news story that portrayed a group of men as camera toting perverts for the unusual angles from which they photographed people on the street...

Gorgeous portraits Luka - especially no 2 and 3! Where any of these LAB processed?

Joe - sorry to hearabout your day - at least the archive shot is lovely - great PP.

Ron, awesome compositions! I tried to emulate but nothing of mine looks remotely interesting.

Phil - great shot - rather 'poisonous' pics you got there - that Noct is looking mighty tempting.

Cheers

Very nice shot. Love the focus on the two kids in the middle and PP.
Ron, love #1. Great colours and PP
Luka, excellent portraits. #2 is superb. The 50 Lux is working is magic here.

Just one caveat from me on the MF vs AF debate: for the fashion shoot, i was not shooting any particular kid, just random snaps of interesting looking subjects. If it were a session where I had to take pics of my daughters, for example, I would not be as relaxed and my hit rate would probably drop (haha). By far, pre-focussing was the more effective way to get in focussed shots, but i did try the move-with-subject approach I first read from Luka's post on how he got the birds-in-flight shots a while back (sadly, i need more practice). But i think i will still go with an M9 and just take comfort in the fact that a pro-photographer is usually on hand to 'cover me' (haha).

cheers

Luka - You NEED a 28 Cron. WOW! I have only used it for one day....but WOW I like this lens. It is the sharpest lens I have used and the colors are the most accurate straight out of camera. The contrast is also higher than my other lenses. The only negative I see initially is the extreme vignetting wide open....though it does clean up 100% perfectly with +50 on the lens vignette in LR3

Thanks. I forgot to answer you earlier - ASPH I...the cheap(er) one . I don't notice focus shift at all in real life situations. On a tripod when shooting at MFD I notice it literally very slightly...but in real world shooting I haven't trashed one picture b/c of focus shift. I *may* have a better than average copy....but then that is what I hear from everyone that has it. My question is, does everyone have a better than average copy or did one person on the internet strike fear in the consumers and leave them talking about the horrible focus shift without ever really trying it

KL - you have been happy....or content? I think your wording would change once you try the Summicron. It is really an unbelievable lens

Thanks Phil, Ron, Luka, KL, Charles, Ryan for the comments and sympathy

Ron, nice shots of the construction site.
I have not heard about that incident. Were they using DSLR with long tele lenses, I guess so? We discussed this quite some time back on this thread, its a fine line but when out shooting on the streets, I tend to avoid situations where I could cause harm or distress to the subjects, a little humor here and there is fine but I think peeping or causing distress is a big no-no wherever you are. When I'm shooting at playgrounds, I normally have my kid with me, so parents won't feel threatened and I will never take a portrait of others' kids unless I have their parent's permission.

Just yesterday, when I was at the park, some $%### with a DSLR with cheap looking consumer zoom was sitting far away taking pics of EVERYONE, including me. Even-though he probably meant no harm, I find it disturbing because the long lenses or zooms resembles a telescope and we all have negative connotations with those.

Luka, nice set, 2 & 3 have great personalities in those, I especially like the framing on 3. Curious, did you use a less sharp scrip on these shots? The 50Luxs looks softer than your normal pp, I thought these were taken with the 75Cron. You really made the 75Cron look like a Canon DSLR lens on the 4th one!

Ryan, another beautiful set with your family. Love all of them ... and congrats on the 28Cron, very nice set and I am glad you like it, else Charles and I would be worried Personally I had more WOW for the 28Cron than the 35 or 50Lux ASPH
on my first day out.
