Thanks KL, Julian, Charles for the feedback and info.
Julian: well, f/2.5 might technically be 2/3 slower than f/2, since on my Canon there's also f/2.2. But it's a lot smaller than the 90AA...
Thanks everyone - for the feedback, it's very encouraging.
Charles - beautiful portrait! Julian - Thank you, and nice picture -- Can you post more with your elmarit?

I know both the 21/2.8 and the 24's are awesome lenses - but I certainly wouldn't call the 21/lux a mistake
I wouldn't either! But there is a tendency to pick the 21 over the 24, just because of its wild specs, without even trying it. 21 is just very, very wide, where the 24 is only very wide.
To make my point, did you try the 24 Lux before deciding on the 21?

LL: Please allow me to offer my English/German interpretation skills. I believe Carsten meant that his analysis of why 24mm appears to be less popular here might be mistaken, not that buying one of the wide Luxes would be a mistake.
Well, I am not German What I meant is that it is a mistake to choose the 28 Cron over the 24 Elmarit, or the 21 Lux over the 24 Lux, without even trying the 24s. Having tried them, of course anything goes.
Based on the many shots in this thread the 35 lux is my favorite lens.
Luka, nice shots as always.
That 75mm f2 summicron still doesn't really appeal to me. Don't know exactly why. It somewhat reminds me of some (good) canon lenses.

Carsten - Thanks for clarifying!
To answer your question, the reason I got the 21/lux is because I had an older 21mm pre-asph lens which i liked a lot.
Also, i have a lot of experience with 24mm on Canon system so i'm very familiar with the focal length. I'm also familiar with wider lenses and for me, at least, 21mm is perfect.
Charles - What a great portrait that is. Can you by chance show the Lab version side by side with the non-Lab? Did you print both versions?
Ron - Great colors in that first shot. It is amazing how much detail is able to be pulled out of these DNG files
LL - I love your processing. I really like #3 & #4
The beach is about 45 min - 1 hr away from my house. I am always too lazy to go down there early in the morning. Well, the weather was perfect last week each morning on my way to work. I mean picture perfect. Great sunrises. So I decided to go down Saturday morning. Great weather forecasted. I show up about 30 min early just to make sure everything is right.....then I get this crap weather
So after thinking about doing this for 1 year and being too lazy to go....I get crap weather. Overcast as can be and not even nice defined clouds....just blah....oh well
Julian, nice portrait with the 90 Summarit, maybe a tad overexposure on the right, but this lens looks good!
Charles, that is a beautiful portrait of mother and child. Caught the expressions in eyes perfectly. Well done! Also like the abstract shot with the 75Lux, this lens has many personalities!
Ron, wonderful color shots from you, as always. Have you been using the CV15 lately? What are your thoughts so far?
KL, thanks for sharing the pp link, I'll need to check it out. I like the colors you're getting from your shots too.
Ryan, stunning set! My favorite is #2 but 3 and 4 are really beautiful too! Definitely worth the early wake up call and drive there.

In other words, I guessed correctly, and you have not tried the 24mm And I think that this is exactly why there are so few 24s around, and perhaps why the 24 Elmarit was cancelled. People prefer the 21 Lux or 28 Cron, without even trying the 24s.
In your case, knowing the 21 Elmarit, there is a chance that the focal length is right for you, but you cannot be certain! Your experience with Canon 24s is not a good indication. Look at Luka: he thought he hated the 50mm focal length, but later discovered that he only hated the Canon 50/1.4! Specific lenses have the ability to sway us, but we won't find out unless we try them. I would never have thought that I would enjoy a 100mm lens so much until I tried the 100 MP, but it was instant love.
My point is this: to make an informed decision, it is necessary to try both options, not just one. Both 24s are very special lenses, but people tend to skip over them without trying them.
I originally wanted to have 21/28/50/90, but the more I think about it, I want both 35 and 50, but find 21 quite wide, so for me 24/35/50/90 might be much better. It is a shame that it is so hard to find out for real, with availability being low, and prices being high.

If you try looking for either 21 or 24Lux (at least in the US), you will find that the 24Lux is almost impossible to get where as the 21Lux is in stock at many dealers. My guess is that the 24Lux could be more popular (just a guess, nothing scientific), and that could also be the reason that not many shots with the 24Lux shows up on this thread, because we can't seem to find one available.
I would like to try the 21 or 24Lux at some point because I shoot low light environmental shots and the speed definitely helps, but it will also be very difficult to give up on my 28Cron, 35Lux and 50Lux, these three are so close yet so unique in their own ways, kudos to Leica for giving us more choices that we need (or want).
I got a new lens today: a Nokton 1.2/35 V1. It was a bit of a gamble. If the V2 is not good as the V1, it will probably be very difficult to get one at a reasonable price in the future. Therefore I decided to buy the last brand new lens in new germany. If the V2 is better (besides being smaller and having a better MFD), this was a mistake. But no risk no fun. So far I like the lens. It reminds me a bit of my (sold) 1.2/85L: Very good center-sharpness even at f/1.2, low contrast and great bokeh. In my opinion a very good lens for portraits. Here are two snapshots from my living-room from today (since walking is still not possible with my leg):
Thanks for the input on the 21/24/28 lenses everyone, I'm not sure I'm closer to a decision but the input is appreciated. Besides I got my new ZE 35/1.4 to play with right now

Hey Bobu - thanks for the samples, it's an interesting lens i've been looking at in the past..
hope ur legs get better soon
I did some more tests with the Nokton. Although the bokeh is really great and the center sharpness is extremly good, the lens has one big problem: Outside of the center it is quite soft (at f/1.2), even half way between center and border.
This means, if you shoot vertical portraits it is impossible to get sharp eyes. It is not a big problem if you shoot only horizontal portraits, at least not on a crop camera.
I will return this lens and try to get a Lux 50 Asph instead. I'm already on two waiting lists (on one since december) and will hopefully get this lens in may.
