One of the few benefits of having to move around with a mobility scooter is that in Italy entrance to the museums and attractions is free, you don't have to wait in lines, and you often have special entrances. The Duomo in Florence is one of these sites. The handicap access door is around the side. While everyone else is waiting in two to three hour lines, I got immediate access. Not only that, the door was beyond the control points inside so I had access to the whole Duomo, not just the normal tourist areas.
The Duomo is a working Church for the people of Florence. In the non publicly accessible areas you can see the normal Church work going on. Far to the rear are a number of quiet and beautiful enclaves. In this one there was a Priest providing a service to a parishioner. Thanks to the very quiet shutter on the M11 I was able to capture this image without disturbing them. The light was beautiful and painterly, but also very low.I had to shoot at ISO 12,500, and still bring up the light a bit in post. This of course required some noise reduction be applied to the image. Still I think the image came out nice. It is an image not many will have gotten from this hugely popular tourist site.

For sure a Monochrome would have helped in that situation. But for now I prefer to have the option of both color or mono when shooting. One day I may make the mono commitment when I feel more confident in that medium.
As an example of why I prefer to have the option of color in my photography.
I found this art student from the Bay Area of California sketching in the Basilica Santa Croce in Florence. He was kind enough to allow me to make a portrait of him while he worked. Unconventionally, I chose to make this portrait with my Leica 21mm Super-Elmar because the environment was so important to the story in my view.
The Basilica Santa Croce is one of my favorite sites to spend time in. So much history with many of the greats in art, science and history are entombed here.
I chose color for this portrait as this told the story best for me.
I don't think I've ever been in a photography funk for so long. But today, my wife and I visited Stockholm, WI (population 92). We had some pie (Stockholm Pie was voted best pie in America by USA Today) and walked the couple of streets of the town. Fun with the camera again!
