p.228 #2 · Leica M/X/T/S/Q/CL/SL Picture Thread | |
Well, I can tell it's going to take me another two weeks to catch up from the last two weeks here! Some interesting technical discussions here too. Maybe I should add a third week to wrap my head around it all! I just want to take pictures and forget about the computer...
Ty- in answer to your question from many pages ago, the aerials are from a helicopter.
KL- I like the lighting for your portraits. Are there any concerns with using a non-leica flash with a leica? I remember people used to tell me not to use a Nikon flash on a Canon body, even in manual mode, because of the signals going through the other pins.
Luka, it looks like there's something wrong with those boats. They appear to be in ice. And Ron, your boats are perhaps even more desperate under cover and up on the shore! Those icicles on the fence look great!
Charles, Kyle, I like those shots back aroudn page 192. Joe, still enjoying those B&W street shots, particularly one you had of a woman and child.
I see you guys got into some cool shots of cars a bit too. How about aircraft next?
I saw a bunch more great shots in the past 15 pages that I'm going to have to go back and take a closer look at.
It's been interesting trying to incorporate the leicam into my professional work shooting yacht racing, some interiors, and some seascapes and travel over the past few weeks. Looking back at it, I found myself mostly relegating it to wide angle duty, predominantly around infinity focus, while shooting out on the water where I work very fast. Actually, it made me realze how quickly I do work, as a result of how prolific I have to be.
Having such a small and light camera did help speed me up and get me into cerain situations more easily, albeit ones where close focusing and/or focus speed was not essential. I also used it a lot more for my shore-side shots on the docks and for dusk scenics where I had the luxury of a bit more time. Some friends teased me for looking like a tourist, wandering around with a little camera in the evenings, so mission accomplished there!
There was too much spray to risk using it from the chase boats I was on in the breeze we had, but shooting onboard sailboats worked out well with the 18. I used the 50 cron a bit onboard too, for portaits and details. I chose that over the 75 lux for the speed and ease of focusing, but the shots are a bit static and boring for my taste though. My fault. I've previously mainly used that focal length from chase boats for a nice classic boat portait, where static is the style.
I also got a few nice shots with the 18 from the air, although not too many as the working distance from a helicopter is usually not so close! 50 or 75 would have been a good range here, but that was covered with my zooms (I normally fly with 24-70, 70-200, and 500 mounted on the SLRs), and since this was my first real trip out with it, I wasn't ready to throw the leicam in the mix for important shots just yet.
All in all, it has really opened my eyes to just how nice a lens can be and how sharp my pictures should be!
