This has recently ended up in my primarily shooting my 35mm Lux, or my 50mm Cron. Today I decided to put on my VM 21mm Color-Skopar. Below is one of today's images processed in both color and monochrome. I really can't decide which way I prefer this image. Obviously the vibrant colors of the boards and the environment work very well in this image. But, there is something expressive in the monochrome as well. In the color version the surfboards dominate the image, In the monochrome the composition, and environment play much bigger roles.So, I am posting both versions.
Well, after much thought, I prefer the color image. I tend to really like monochrome, for urban images, but the monochrome image draws my eye to those trousers, which could be a good thing, except that the person wearing the trousers is uninteresting, and performing a most uninteresting action. The other person is similarly uninteresting. Together, the two people distract from the interesting composition. The color image is very much about the beautiful surfboards, in an interesting environment, with interesting lines and lighting, with the human element offering a sense of scale. Notably, I am not qualified to “critique” an image, just saying what I see, as an artless dumredneck from SE Texas.

Thanks for taking the time to make such thoughtful comments. As always, I learn from them, and appreciate them very much.
I will take such constructive comments from a SE Texas dumredneck anytime!
Being an old SoCal surfer, I wanted to feature the boards which I find beautiful in their colors, shapes, and varieties, that represent the different periods in surfing. I staked out the composition for about 15 minutes, so have a number of similar images with different people. None of them were doing much interesting. They were just riding an escalator. I choose this one because the way they are dressed represents to me a very strong SoCal "vibe". I was kind of grateful to get this one shot of them doing nothing so interesting. In the other frames of them they were doing things that made it seem that they were more than just friends. I didn't think that helped the image.
