Wow, the images posted here are really impressive. Luka, LL, Joe, Ron, Charles, Ryan, Phil (I hope I didn't leave anybody out, if I did then my apology, I didn't mean it), you guys know how to highlight the strength of the Leica M system. Keep it up !

Hi guys,
I would like to add my opinion on whether you should get an M8 or an M9.
I personally have an M8 and an M6 but have never tried an M9.
I must say, the crop factor REALLY annoys me. I find myself reaching for my M6 more often just because
I enjoy a true 50mm lens more than a 75. I think it's personal though.
As you can see, the crop factor really annoys Denoir and I, but rscheffler doesn't mind it.
I also can't afford anything close to an M9 so for now I'll be using my M8 and M6 until they

I'm not sure what triggered this disscussion, as I was just stopping by to admire some of you guys shots.

Like Kyle, I have had an M8.2 while having my M6 and it just never clicked with me. At times, I love the instant results but for some reason I always grabbed my M6.

I have been down the M8.2 road twice to see if I was just confused the first go around. The second time around, I gave it more time but it still felt weird. Like Kyle and Denoir, I think it simply is the crop. When you are so used to look, the feel and the framing of a "full-frame" camera, wether it be analog/digital, it is weird to give it up.

Now, for me, it is easier to shoot a 1D/xxD camera and not think about it as much because you look through the lens. I know that is mind over matter. When I look through my Leica, esp. the M8, it was just a constant reminder my 35/50/etc. was jacked up.

In the end, it is the results that matter. My costco just stopped processing film! Major bummer! Now I have to figure out if I want to get rid of the noctilux and get and M9 or just be content and find someone to develop my C-41. Before you ask, I already develop my own B&W and I have no room for containers of developer, stop, etc.

By the way...Excellent shots guys!

I just went back to see what started some of this. Ryan? Are you wanting to get rid of that M8.2 already? Haha! If so, you need to stay away from here. The M9 bug will get you pretty bad. Why do you think I sold the M8 and shoot film? Haha. Good luck making that decision.

Ron - awesome series! Probably my favorite series you have posted. Every shot is excellent
Charles - great set as well. Great colors
Phil - great shots. Really like #1!
luka - nice work with the 50! The rendering on #1 is unreal
Joakim - congrats on a sweet car! Nice pics

And all of you, thanks. I just figured out an easy way to get an M9 and Zeiss 25 to replace my 18 without spending anything out of pocket! Look out for the FS listing in the next day or so which will include all my Nikon plus M8 and Zeiss 18. I will get a cheap cropper for Nikon instead of the Leica . I expect you guys to bump the hell out of that listing once it's posted

Great great everyone!
Ryan- good luck with your sale, I'm sure you will enjoy the m9.
I too have decided to sell my m8.2. It will be up for sale soon.
I will now be using my film m6 and I may get a compact digital camera until I can afford an m9.
1.3 crop just didn't do it for me.
Hopefully, you guys will permit me to keep posting my shots with an m6 in this thread, if not I understand.

Thanks,
Kyle

Well, since we're showing cars.. here's my little red one:

Just kidding, it's not mine - it was just parked outside my apartment so I took a snap.

No, a Ferrari is far too small for me. It's Bentley for me as I need room for my chauffeur, my tripod aligner and let's not forget my trusted shutter puller, Jeeves.

Congrats on the new car Joakim

Very nice Luka!

More cars...

Note the decal:

First two ZM50 and last one ZM21 (wasn't expecting to post these yet, so the last one hasn't been run through cornerfix). All within about 5-10 minutes while wandering around Lausanne.

Joakim: excellent choice!! (but not quattro?) I have a 2004 A4 quattro that I bought used in 2008 with low mileage and enjoy it very much. Could use a bit more power and I have had it 'chipped' to bump up the horsepower a bit. The current S4 with the supercharged V6 would be nice

(sorry, shot on a Canon 1DIII with 70-200f/4L IS)

Ryan: great that you figured out a solution to get an M9. How much for the 18?

Luka - I agree with and am very aware of the factors you pointed out. But if I was not able to afford a Lux and an M9, my priority would be to get the lens (before any additional price increases) and wait on a decent used M9, because it's the camera which depreciates the most. By no means was I advocating that Ryan stick with the M8 indefinitely.

Thanks everyone for your comments on my previous set. That was still in Geneva and the solitary woman in a couple of the images is my girlfriend. I included the last one, by the shop window, because I really liked the feel of it, the way the ZM50 rendered the scene. We did a couple day trips while visiting a friend in Switzerland. One to Lausanne, the other to Geneva. My GF was surprisingly patient with me because the typical scenario was that we'd start walking somewhere and within 50 meters I would be well behind her photographing something (she walks too fast ). So I was constantly trying to catch up with her. If you look at the photo of the Maserati above, that lone figure at the end of the street is her. Why she wouldn't stop to admire such a car...? To be honest, it was not an ideal situation for either of us. I constantly felt rushed and was literally running and gunning half the time and felt I missed many potential compositions. Looking back at the images, I can see details and aspects in images that I would have liked to have pursued further. But, so it is with relationships. It's a matter of compromising, just like building an M kit on a limited budget

Charles, very nice set and I'm really fond of the hills with distant cityscape.

Nice Maserati Ron

I had a personal success today. There is this icicle formation that I pass by nearly every day and that I've been attempting to photograph for a couple of months now. I have at least 100 photos of it and each one so far has been an abysmal failure. I came close to something acceptable with a 90 Cron shot but was forced to use a too large aperture which ruined the shot. Today however - success. I took two shots with the 50 Lux ASPH and these are the first ones that I actually like. Not sure if it's the lens or if it is because the ice has begun melting but suddenly things worked out..

Joe, Phil, Joshua, Ryan, Luka and Ron ... thanks guys
Ryan, good luck! We will be there to bump you along
Joakim, very nice car! Nice shots.
Lovinglife, love that shot! That 21 Elmarit is a great lens.
Ron, very nice shots, and great PP as usual! My fav is the last shot(albeit a 1DIII). Fav car is #1 I am please you have a willing model. My fiancee is somewhat tiring of being a model, same problem when taking shots, but compromise is the essence

Luka, Canon Valley will be named in future Leica Valley
Excellent series of shots! Definitely love the ones of the melting ice! I agree the 50 Lux Asph, pulls colours out of scenes, and surprises me quite often. I know this is the experience of a lot of others in the LUF/GetDPI forums, and no doubt the reason for its huge following. I also find the 75 Lux is similar in this respect, but much more subtle. Great images!

Luka, those 50Lux shots are superb. The first two shots from the previous page, and the icecles are beautiful. There must be some magic in this lens You're really bringing out the best in this (or any other lens) with your compositions and pp... always enjoy your post and commentary.

I see we have a mini car fiesta?

Joakim, congrats on your new car! Nice ride.

Ryan, GLWS!

Ron, I like that sticker on the Skyline . You're not the only one "lagging" behind your partner, I have the same problem when I'm out with my family. Thank God for cellphones

Edit: Phl, nice set. Where do you find all these old cars?

I love German cars for the engineering and emotion it evokes, but looking at all the problems with the current batch of products from Leica Germany, I'll stick to my Japanese car. The money saved on maintenance may be enough to buy me some Leica glass

Since we are on Audi's, this is probably one of my favorite Audi commercial. Not sure if any of you have seen it outside N America?

&playnext=1&list=PL30ADCFFFA8B32CC2

Kyle, not sure what other cameras you have beside film-M? Maybe keep the M8 for the time being? I hear you, I had my frustrations when I shot with my M6 TTL and M8 but there were times when digital was more convenient. Even now, if I know that I'm going to shoot more than 2-3 rolls of film out on a day's shoot, I'll just go for the M9, evermore so with the availability of SEP2. Developing 2-3 rolls in my basement can be fun but more than that, it gets tedious with scanning, unless I send it out to the lab, but then it gets expensive.

Lets get back to some pics. 90 Tele-E

Thanks Phil

Its a 90 Tele-Elmarit thin version. Made in Canada with attached rubber hood. This lens is really compact (almost the same size as my 50Cron). It works best stopped down to f/4 or more. Its probably the least sharp 90mm Leica but still works great. The fat version is a collectors' item and sell for more but performance wise the same. You have to be careful of two things when shopping for this lens (i) focus shift could be noticeable but can be fixed. (ii) hazing - this is very common with this lens and cannot be fixed - be sure to shine a torch light and check before getting one. I don't know why, but pricing on this lens at KEH doubled over the past few months. Its a crazy market for all Leica lenses now. Everything is in short supply.

Thanks Joe for the info and warnings of the lens esp. the hazing part.

Anybody have any recommendations on a 135mm or longer? good and bad? I come from a tele zoom background so I want to experiment with longer focal lengths leica, zeiss, or voights
