What else are you going to sell for the M9?
It never ends Ryan, 35Lux, 50Lux, next you want the 90Cron AA, then you go the other direction for the 21 or 24Lux, and then you start thinking of the 0.95, as soon as you save up for it, you realize its out of stock everywhere and the M10 will soon be launched.
The 50 Lux Asph, is probably one of the most respected lenses, in reading the forums and looking at Luka's shots It truly is a great lens.
Luka, great example! Seriously you must ask Leica for a commission!!!
Ryan, the 50 Lux on the M8.2 would be a brilliant portrait lens with crop factor. Great for your shots of family
Joe, yes Leica lust ...!
A recent portrait shot, shown before with CS5 PP and now reprocessed in C1 Pro, and finally having some success with skin tone colours without having to takes shots of a test card, through ACR.
Thanks, guys! Anything for you, Joe. You see, I am trying to help you spend your money . On a serious note though, have you contacted Ken Hansen and/or Tony Rose? The two pretty much have been covering my needs for Leica lenses. Well, in addition to some used lenses from private parties, of course.
KL, so, that's the new skyline of Singapore, huh? Nice shots!
Joshua, I really like #3, but I find the added vignetting/spotlight effect a bit distracting.

Come on Luka, that wasn't necessary . From your crop it doesn't even show the slightest hint of glow like the 35 does. That is very impressive.

The glow on the 35 is due to uncorrected spherical aberrations. The ASPH design counteracts it but apparently more successfully on the 50 Lux. The most interesting lens in that respect is the Zeiss 50/1.4 Planar ZE/ZF. It's very detailed wide open but suffers heavily from SA. So at the same time you get a very detailed image that looks very unsharp.
If you are serious about selling your D700 and going completely M, then IMO your priority should be to replace your M8 with an M9. No sense in getting all these great lenses and use them on a cropper.
Anyway, I took the 50 out for another test shoot. I tried shooting some street shots with it as well. I have confirmed that I still suck at it, regardless of lens
Luka, another nice set with 50Lux. #1 & 2 is really nice. Like how you nailed #1 shooting wide open. Also nice attempt on the street shots, that mirror reflection shot is pretty cool, nice! The last shot, attempting from the rear doesn't count
edit: #3 is great! .. I could not see it first time I loaded the page

Ouch! but I agree ... I thought long and hard about keeping the M8 and adding nicer glass, but in the end, the M9 is totally worth it (for me)! I just hope they don't release a M10 so soon. My accountant won't be too happy
Thanks Joe #1 and #6 (B/W shot) were shot the same way - zone focusing. I picked a spot, and a composition and then waited for my subject(s) to enter the frame. In the case of the birds it wasn't too difficult as there were a lot of them. I selected a 5 meter focusing distance and was pretty sure that at least a couple of birds would be in focus.
Thanks Luka I don't really use hip shots often because its a gamble and its difficult to control the framing, but sometimes it works, but more often, the head or something else gets chopped off.
Thanks for sharing your method. I think what you've doing (zone or hyperfocal focusing) is one of the best thing about the Leica M, really accurate manual focusing and something that is not easy to do on DSLR.
I read somewhere that one of HCB's favorite methods was basically to select a spot, compose the image and then wait for something interesting to happen in the frame. It sort of also shows in some of his images.
If you take this famous shot for instance:
It's not like he happened to be walking down the stairs, see a bike and pull out his camera. It's more likely that he selected the spot, composed the shot and then waited patiently for something to happen.
Joe, Ryan .. thanks
Joshua, excellent and fascinating portraits... and great locations too. Excellent PP too.
KL, great shots, just have to keep the 50 now
Luka, really nice series with the new toy I really like the Josque style shot!
Joe, love that "hip" shot!
Ryan, definitely the M9 when the budget allows. Even if the M10 did come out, the M9 will keeps a lot of its value being a unique FF.
Lovinglife, nice shot! You meet the initial criteria of the obligatory duck shot.
Great shots Luka, Joe! Yes, in Oct I actually have something paid where I need the D700 (bodybuilding show in pitch black) but after that I am thinking I will ditch the Nikon. I only NEED the Nikon once a year.....
On another note, how easy is it to put a simple white border around my images in LR3? It does add a lot.

Joe, the difference will be evident when there is a lot of fine detail. That's not the case in that particular shot. As for the 75 Cron, I've tried a bunch of images now, but no dice. It's still a soulless hunk of metal With the risk of giving Carsten a heart attack, I consider it about as exciting as an average Canon prime No but it's quite nice for portraits but unfortunately not a very good landscape lens - at least not in my hands.
Hehe, I probably deserve that dig, the way I go on about Canon, but no, I find the 75 Cron competent but unexciting. Probably something like the 135L.
