Thank you Luka
Edward, nice shot! Interesting perspective
Luka, congratulations on the silver 50 Lux Asph. The silver is heavier, but very sturdy and solid. Wow, can't wait to see your shots with the new beast
Are you sure about the weight? According to the specs it should be 335g - the same as the black one. I think it's the older chrome editions that were heavier while the newer 'silver' ones just differ in color.
By the way, my M9 should arrive today, barring an UPS snafu. Leica managed to give the wrong delivery information to UPS, but I pre-empted them and corrected it.
Thanks. No you seem to be right. There is apparently a mistake in the Leica PDF, but from what I can see from other sources the black is ~340g while the silver is ~460g. Hmm, if I had known that I would have probably waited for a black one. Oh well..
Too bad yours is new, or I would offer to swap. I have black but would prefer brass/chrome maybe in a few years when your warranty runs out The brass versions (chrome, titanium, black paint) are a lot heavier, and have a different feel.
Well, after all the back and forth, I am very curious how you will like it. I will get my shotgun loaded up, just in case
Luka, the silver/brass 50 Lux's are well sought after, even more so than the black. My silver 50 Lux feels solid, smooth and very accurate to focus. If you ever need to exchange for a black body, I am sure there would a long line willing to exchange

Well, I know you wisely recommended that I try out one first but I've never shown any tendency towards reasonable behavior when it comes to getting lenses.
No, I'm pretty sure I'll like it and that it won't be as with the 75 Cron. Fortunately there are many more sample images and reviews available for the 50 Lux
I think my M9 kit is reaching completion now. With my DSLR lenses I generally had a better idea of what I was getting into. With the range finder lenses I've had three lenses that did not entirely fulfill my expectations (or hopes). Or perhaps more accurate to say - three lenses that were more specialized than I thought:
- the 35/2 Biogon, wide open performance wasn't all that - solved by the 35 Lux ASPH
- the 75 Cron, did not work out as an all-round tele (still like it for portraits) - solved by the 90 Cron V3
-the 50/1.5 Sonnar, did not work out as an all-round normal (still great for portraits) - solved by the 50 Lux ASPH (I hope)
So there is some reason behind the madness!
I'll still find use for the 35 Biogon, 75 Cron and 50 Sonnar. They can be quite good when they do the thing they do best. The 35 Biogon is an awesome landscape lens stopped down and the Cron and Sonnar are both really nice portrait lenses.

I've read up a bit on the subject now and I think I'll stick with the silver one. 100 grams isn't exactly the end of the world and a bit of extra build quality can't hurt.
rsolti- You are getting great results with that 18!
I need some advice on what I should bring on my trip to SC.
I currently have:
M6
M8.2
Zeiss 50 Sonnar
VOigtlander 15
Zeiss 21 viewfinder.
What do you guys think I should bring?
I'm considering bringing everything and keeping the 50 on the m6 and the 15 on the m8.2, but there are so many different options and I'm not quite sure what to do as this is one of the first times going on a trip with Leicas!
Kyle - thanks. Bring it all! Where at in SC are you going? If going to Hilton Head or Charleston I can see all pieces being valuable. There are some great landscape opportunities at Hilton Head with the beaches and being right there on the ocean. A lot of little shops. Charleston will be great for historical buildings and shops (using M8 + CV 21) and GREAT for people shots (M6 + 50). You are also right there on the river. Its light enough to take all
Yes KL, SEP2 for all my B&W nowadays. Much more control over tonality. BTW, congrats on the 50Cron, hope you like it.
Cool shot Edward!
Oh boy, Luka, you're hooked huh? Congrats on the lens. Looks like you got a good deal on it. Can't wait to see pics.
Charles, another very nice portrait. Agree with others that the rendering differs when stopped down, very nice!
Ryan, I like the B&W tones on those SEP 2 shots, very nice. The 50Lux shot renders beautifully.
Kyle, bring both digital and analog, I will never leave home with one digital M after what happened to my M9. The crop on the M8.2 will give you a short tele with the 50 Sonnar.

Since everyone is talking about the 50mm lenses on this page, here's one with my CV 50/1.5 Nokton
Ryan, excellent shots! Love #2 & #3. And #4 is also cool.
Joe, nice shot! You really manage to capture some semi-hostile looks there
Kyle, bring it all! It's not like it will take up a huge amount of space. And it's always good to have a secondary camera - especially with these mechanically sensitive rangefinders.

In other news, I got my M9 back! Interestingly enough they couldn't find anything wrong with it, but re-calibrated the range finder anyway. What is more odd is that they covered it as a warranty repair - i.e free of charge, even though I got the express service (well, almost anyway). Strange people, Leica customer service.. There's one thing they are really good at - packing!
You can't see it from those crappy iphone pics but the box says "Leica customer service".
...boy this thread is moving so fast, just a few days not being able to have internet and i have to go thru a lot of pages already. Nice shots gentlemen ;-)
