Luka....wow.....wow! I will say these are the first great shots I am seeing from this camera. It seems that not many are using it. Is that because they are sold out or nobody wants to pay $2,000 for a 'P&S' type camera? I know....not a P&S......
I have been wanting a smaller pocket/jacket type camera and totally overlooked this one. May have to consider it

Thanks Ryan!
I think the reason is the price in comparison to comparable cameras (such as the GF1) in combination with its well documented shortcomings. The camera isn't very good at all - the sensor and the lens on the other hand are very good. I think many people are willing to give up a bit of image quality for usability and in that case the Panasonic, Olympus & Sony alternatives are better. If you on the other hand prioritize image quality, well, then you can learn to live with the faults of the camera as then it can make sense.
Charles: Great pictures! I really like that last portrait.
PSquared63: I love that second shot. Very nice rendering and good choice of light.
Some more X1 shots just I grabbed this evening. Unlike yesterday I was a bit disappointed with the results - the color rendering is pretty weak compared to a 5DII with Zeiss glass. Yes, you get vivid colors, but they definitely lack the subtlety that you get with a FF sensor and good glass. Furthermore as the sun went down, it's shutter speed of 1/30 when set to Auto ISO is not enough for steady shots. At least a third of my shots were blurry due to camera shake. This problem is attenuated by the fact that the LCD is very low res so it may look like you nailed a shot while it in reality is very blurry.
Anyway, the shots:
This was actually a really nice sunset so I actually regret not using a 'proper' camera for this..
Thanks all! I've seen so many wonderful images posted in this thread - Nice to see a heavy leica thread I guess
When I took that golfball shot people looked at me like I was nuts That's my go to place when trying new things out.
Maybe not so exciting, but here's another that was taken shortly after. Sorry for the compression artifacts, but I don't think anyone wants a 4xxx pixel image posted in here :/
Are some of the other sites (like smugmug) better with their resizing (I don't mean to hijack!)?
Nice images. Its nice if you include which body and lens you used as well as the iso settings. So that we can see how these images stack up to Canon / Nikon etc.
Sorry, all mine are X1. The golfball shot was ISO 400, the Baby candid was ISO 800 , and the last image I posted of the golf course was ISO 100. The idea behind framing the bush like that was to try and create a feel of casually overlooking. Not sure if it managed to work or not yet... lol.
Denoir - I really love the vivid colors in your shots, particularly number 2. Would you mind sharing your general sharpening settings for x1 shots? Jpgs are very flat but have a nice clarity to them out of the box (I use the raws though). You clearly have a much firmer grasp of this art than I!
Usually if I see that I'm too fast in low light - I try to bump to a -2/3 ev to avoid going too high on ISO, then push them up in post - it seems to work well so long as I don't go past -1ev (in near dark) as I find the x1 raws to have a pretty good level of headroom and range.
You are all very kind! As such forgive me for posting a completely different kind of image. This was the shot very shortly after I received the x1 - and using zone focus. Hope you all enjoy it. That's it from me for a while - I'll sit back and enjoy the expert shots I've been seeing!
Break time? Actually ( and i won't post the other) the guy on the right was extremely distressed. I believe it was over a lady.
iso 100 (i'm not set on my sharpening right now, i think it introduces too much noise)
h00ligan, nice shots. Great shots on the golf course. I like the sharp portrait too.
gregoryniss, great to see some shots with the nokton 1.1, with the M8. I have felt this lens is somewhat of an equilizer, when it comes to low light photos, that is relatively cost effective.
Luka, I really like your shots. It is hard to replace the 5DII, but I am loving the weight and size advantage.
Interesting comparison shot zombii. Yes, I am spending sometime getting the WB right, and using a Spyder cube, to get some experience on what the accurate WB is, and then compare it to actual WB. I have read that the best is to set it to Daylight, and adjust in ACR if needed. So far, it is very interesting, I am think... I am progressing
I find it hard to pick up the 5DII now, just it seems so much larger and heavier than what I remembered.
I wonder how long it will be before we get a FF the size of the X1. I bought the x1 and 7d (in hindsight I should have probably gone with a 5d mk2 but now I'm not willing to take the loss so soon) and to be honest, it is impractical to have the 7d with me all the time - So I get where you are coming from Charles. I volunteer at the biggest no kill shelter in AZ, so I need the speed. Maybe I just need to adjust more. So far (and for all its shortcomings) I haven't found a compact to match the x1 yet, even at 2k. That said, I would love a firmware update to smooth things out a bit.. well speed things up a bit. May be a pipe dream though. MFT to me seems like a very temporary middle ground, which is why i left that system. Thanks for your kind comments. I had never zone focused before that day I also really enjoy the nokton shots.. for the money it certainly seems like a great lens!
