I researched this and bought the overpriced SF 40. For TTL, I believe only a Leica flash will work. Same with HSS. Others with more knowledge can chime in.

I was looking at the SF26 for a small flash, but was hoping for something a bit cheaper..
I have a couple of older SF 58s but never liked the results fromTTL so I use them manually. I like that they go down to 1/128 power. Having said the I could have bought much less expensive flashes to use all manually.

The Godox TT350's I have do the job and are not all that big which also go down to 1/128. I don't do much flash photography other than at holiday time's and when using 2 and a trigger in the light box for gear or flower photographs..

That's correct. And Leica's TTL isn't that great anyway. If you don't mind using manual flash, Nikon flash units have the same hotshoe pin arrangement as Leica. Matt Osborne (mrleica.com) is easily the best resource for using flash with Leica cameras.
I have the SF24D, SF40, SF58, and SF64. (I like flash.) All but the SF40 feature thyristor Auto, which I prefer, as well as TTL. For a small on-camera flash the SF24D is unbeatable. It doesn't take AA batteries though.

I do have a Godox flash that I use with a Nikon trigger on the Leica that works great. But no HSS. I bought the SF40 strictly for HSS. I don’t use TTL often. That 24d looks like a great little option.
