Edit: Great shots Jeremy. All of them, like the one with the guy with paint all over his outfit a lot as well as the b/w conversion of the building
Ron, great reporting. Like the first chair shot a lot...great look to it. You're right, I did have the 75 and wasn't a huge fan. The rendering really wasn't much to my liking. It was a little softer than I wanted even stopped down. Even on the M8, the corners didn't clean up until f/8 or so. Some people say it is a poor mans Lux...but I don't think so at all as the Lux goes from soft and 'glowy' at f/1.4 to razor sharp at what...f/2 or f/2.8? The Voigt 75 1.8 never seemed to get that sharp edge like I wanted.
Of the 75 length the Summarit looks the most like what I would want but I am actually thinking that my next will be a 90. The 90 elmarit-m looks like a can't pass lens and they are pretty reasonable...being right around the $1,000 mark. I also have a 35 and 50 and 35/50/75 seems too close for me where the 35/50/90 combo will provide for some nice separation.
Got my ZM 18 over the weekend...will be able to post some tonight. For now, here are some more 35 Cron ASPH shots. I LOVE how this lens renders skin tones...maybe my favorite lens I have ever used for people

Carsten, interesting thoughts. I would have thought the 28/50 would have been more useful than the 35/50.. anything wrong with the 28 in particular or?
No, the 28 Cron is a great little lens, although the rendering is not quite as nice as the 35 Lux ASPH, IMO.
The thing is that although the 50 is my favorite focal length, I find myself also strongly drawn to the 35. They say that people prefer the 35 or the 50, but I enjoy having both. The 28 is quite close to the 35 though, and I think I would enjoy making the step down to the 24, rather than having 28/35/50. There is also the 24 Lux... Expensive, but it just might give my wide angle photography a boost. At the moment I pick up my 21 rarely, and my 28 even less. Both 35 and 50 get regular exercise.

Thanks Joe Nice shot! The 35 Lux Asph is a very easy lens to leave on the M9.
Phil, the 35 Cron Asph, is a brilliant lens. It is lighter, smaller and a tad slower. Some of my sharpest landscapes are from the 35 Cron Asph. Rendering wise it is very nice too. I sold my 35 Cron Asph, to fund the 35 Lux Asph II.
Here are two shot on the beach with the 35 Cron Asph. PP now with C1 Pro.
Have you thought of looking a second hand 35 Lux Asph I, as the rendering may be preferable to latest version. The only supposed issue with the 35 Lux Asph I, is focus shift, but there are many copies out there where it is not an issue....Show more →
Thanks for the info Charles, just ordered my 35 cron asph, so hopefully will post some samples really soon
Ryan - I agree the CV 75 is not in the same league as the 75 Lux. I guess what interests me in it is the soft glowy aspect when shot wide open. Perhaps it's more aptly described as a one dimensional poor man's Lux. And for the price, one could add a Summarit and still be well under the cost of a Lux. But from the little I've used it, it does get pretty sharp stopped down, though I agree the corners don't necessarily catch up. I'm not sure that's a concern for me, at least not yet. The focus shift will probably be more of an issue. At the moment 90mm isn't calling to me. My plan is that 75mm and below will be M9. Anything higher will be Canon and 70-200 f/4L IS or 85L or 135L. At least for some of the work I'm doing, AF is nice to have with telephoto lenses.
Also, very nice images. You're right that the skin tone rendering is very pleasing. There is a subtle translucency to these images.
Yes Ed, some swirls wide open, which I don't mind at all.
Carsten, I agree with you, I like 35mm on the M9. I'll see how it goes after I get the 50 tomorrow, but I don't consider them too similar, just as I don't consider 50 and 75 too similar. Another thought has been to go 18, 25, 35, 50, 75 in place of my 15 and 21. I haven't used the 15 much as of yet, but think it has a place in my kit, especially if I can make a good cornerfix profile for it. If not, then the 18 might be a consideration because it cleans up well and might be a bit better technically than the 21, though I would miss the f/2.8 of the 21 for indoor work, for which the 25 might compensate. Or, there are the 21 & 24 Luxes. I have read that the 24 Lux never really gets sharp corner to corner, so it might be more of a low light, wide open specialty lens for nontechnical work.
Jeremy, very nice selection that tells a story as well.
Here are some pre-Christmas images from Munich's Christmas market in Marienplatz... trying to get these wrapped up before I head back again tomorrow...
A spontaneous public meltdown:
Moments later he has calmed down:
And has become the unwitting subject for another tourist's snapshots:
Jeremy, great shots! Love the rendering with your 90 Cron Pre AA. Cool ducks, would make Luka proud I do like the skin tones in #3.
Ryan, excellent shots!!! Beautiful skin tones! The 35 Cron is a great combination on the M8.2 in your hands.
Ron, very nice shots. I particularly like the colours and rendering the last shot.
Carsten, I agree, the 35 and 50 FL's work really well on the M9. I really like the 28 FL too. The 35 and 50's, the lenses available are brilliant, combined with the ease of focusing and composing shots... they just work with ease with the some of the limitations of RF system.

Ok so does anyone have any opinions on the Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2.0 ASPH? Will this do justice on my M9? The 1.4 seems to be available this september according to Dale's?
Phil, hope your 35Cron arrives soon. BTW, if you are going on the wait list for the 35Lux ASPH, you might want to get on the list of the 50Lux ASPH too. Long wait list for both.
Ron, nice read on your 75/1.8 findings. From your pics of the wicker chair, it definitely has a unique drawing to it.
Jeremy, pics of ducks are always a plus on this thread! Nice set!
Ryan, more precious moments captured with the 35Cron. Nice! Looking forward to your ZM18 pics.
Alright, got the ZM 18 over the weekend, took it out today. This is the wide angle lens I wanted for Leica...very nice I don't have my UV/IR filter yet so I have a bit of red edges and vignetting. I bought one with the Millich mount and its coded as a WATE. I didn't have my viewfinder with me today (Zeiss 25/28)....but it was at my doorstop when I got home
While I was out running errands today, I stopped in a parking lot and got out to walk around a county-run bike rental shop. I pass it all of the time and always thought the sculptures in front, made from old bike parts, seemed interesting.
Taken with the M9 and a combo of the 50mm Sonnar, 90 Cron pre-AA, and WATE.
These three give new meaning to the term "gearhead."
Steve - that entire building has about 7 or 8 of those all around it...all different. Very good job someone did
Jeremy - very interesting shots you got there. I too always see places that look interesting where I should stop but never end up doing so. I probably should as you show you can get some interesting shots
Luka - I really like the peacefulness of the 2nd shot. Funny how you always have ducks to show even when the river is frozen and I am sitting in 70 degree weather and wouldn't even know where to look for ducks. I never see any around
My Voigtlander 15mm M arrived today, what a nice, solid, small lens.
Unfortunately, the viewfinder and filter didn't come yet so I can't really use the lens.
Once I get the rest of the stuff, I'll be sure to post soe shots in here!
Thanks Ryan. Yeah, there's no shortage of ducks here. It's actually easier to get good duck shots in winter as people feed them. In fact you could end up with ducks chasing you:
Anyway, the weather has been conspiring against me the past week. Each time I planned to go out and shoot there was a snow storm. So I have not shot any new pictures and some from last week will have to do.
For the lack of anything else to post and consistency being the last refuge of the unimaginative, here is some plain bench & 35 Lux rendering p0rn:
Thanks Ryan Very nice shot with the 35 Cron. I am very partial to the rendering of the 50 Lux
Steve, fun shot!
Jeremy, nice and very unique series of shots! I do like the gear head concept though
Luka, very nice shot of the ducks in motion. Excellent rendering shots of the 35 Lux
Charles, nice set, like the tones and rendering on #3
Ryan, nice tones and composition on #1 with the 35Cron.
Jeremy, nice "gearhead" set
Luka, the 2 ducks in B&W is splendid, well done! Benches are always another plus, I guess

Sorry no ducks but found some pigeons. 35Lux ASPH
Thanks KL and Joe
KL, with Bali even though you are on the west of most of the usual destinations, the sunsets are very ordinary and a lot of the beaches have black sand. Bali has many extraordinary locations, a lot of temples and mountains. The more traditional Bali is on the north side of the island. The lighting this time of the year, tends to be hazy and is excellent in the afternoon for taking shots.
