Just happened to be walking along when a bunch of fire trucks rushed by for a minor fire. I stopped at the scene but there was not much to photograph. Continued on by cutting through an alley and found these bakery employees taking a break.
Shot with the ZM35 f/2.8, the original is quite loosely framed, so this is a pretty heavy crop. I like the original, though there are a lot of distracting elements, such as signage, etc. and feel this composition is stronger.
Very nice joakim! I'm partial to the first and last.
As for our winter in the Toronto area, yesterday was a warm +10 (though it felt warmer), which along with the previous two warm days melted most of the snow. Today it's very windy and back below freezing for a shocking jolt of winter reality after yesterday's brief springtime flirtation.
I agree that the 35mm FL is extremely versatile. Probably about 85-90% of what I've shot so far with the M9 has been with that lens. In the next couple days I will add a CV75 and ZM50 (if it arrives in time before the start of a trip) to round out my current set of CV15, ZM21 and ZM35. It will be interesting (for me) to see how this all sorts itself out. My hunch at the moment is I might eventually replace the 35 with a 28, but the selection at 28mm isn't nearly as broad as 35mm.
A couple from yesterday with the ZM21 f/2.8:
It was very windy and I had a slight problem with dust
I must say, I love my M9 more and more everyday. I take it with me everywhere! I was walking around Georgetown last night after dinner and saw the moon coming up over this church. I took this hand-held at 1/12 sec with the 35 Lux. No mirror and soft release are definitely giving me a couple of extra stops.
I have a question about shot #2. Were you trying to focus on the girl with the cell phone as she was walking towards you, or did you just have your focus set to a certain distance in front of you and waited until she walked into your zone?
M9 & CV15 (@ f/8, I think). I still haven't managed to create a good Cornerfix profile for it yet. I made a few, but none so far result in neutral colouration. I also haven't given it much priority. So, for the time being B&W, but it also suits this subject, which is the concrete underside of a newish 5000 seat football stadium.
It's a difficult lens to use if exact composition and alignment is desired. I find myself making a series of images and moving very slightly between each in the hopes of getting it close to the desired result.
Thanks Ryan. 2&3 do it for me, particularly #2. The feel of it is very smooth and natural. Wait until you get an M9 and find that ISO 1250 is usable! Actually, even ISO 2500 is usable, though I seem to get bad banding in one out of every 4-5 shots. It also appears at 1250 though is less noticeable.
Had to run some errands this afternoon and ended up in a new 'big box' store complex still partially under construction in a new suburb. The lone, abandoned shopping carts were calling out to be photographed, so I obliged.
I wondered why people seemed to just leave the carts wherever. I guess the feeling is the store staff will be collecting the carts from the collection areas around the parking lot anyways... The one by the snow pile was only ~15 metres from the store entrance, kind of in an odd spot for someone to leave it. After I did the photos an older minivan driving couple parked in that spot. I guess it's closer than even the handicapped parking. So, the cart is left there because it's halfway between returning it to the store or taking it to a collection spot. And if one has to park even closer than the handicapped parking spots, then one either can't walk very far, or is very lazy. The cynic in me wants to believe it's laziness...
Joe... Thank you Excellent shots of Lunar New Year!
Ron, very nice capture with the first shot! Second series love the abstract composition. My fav is your last B&W shot.
Joakim, very nice shots! I really love the contrast in rendering with 50 Lux
Hugo, excellent shots. I really like the PP too
Jeremy very nice shot of the church, considering this was hand held at 1/2 sec!
Ryan, excellent shots, particularly #2 and 3. Love the rendering to these shots.
Here are a few more shots from Bali collated. Rather than post separately, I have added a link
Ron, nice B&W with the CV15! Details looks sharp to me.
Ryan, nice set. #1 & 2 are my favorites. #2 & 3 are priceless.

I follow focus on her on this shot. She was walking rather slowly which helped. I zone focus quite a lot using smaller apertures such as f5.6 to f11 but not when I shoot wide open.
