A mall is a great place to shoot and that's all I can find use for in one...

All zone focused

Many ( yours truly) trying to figure out how to harness the many settings and combinations of settings for different scenarios and subjects now available with supersonic AF technology, while others just dial in DoF, adjust the shutter speed accordingly and snap, snap, snap all day.

I usually pre set my expoure and zone or hyper focus. I do that probably 80% or the time, Nothing faster than being pre focused.

Remind me a lot in its bokeh on the Canon 50/1.4 LTM lens. The Voigtlander lens seems to have less corner vignetting though.

Leica M-E 240, Tanaka 135/3.5 Tele-Tanar LTM lens. I got this lens for $40 in used but excellent condition. It is superb both on film and in digital. Definitely a hidden gem in the LTM lens line.

Now that we have separate Human Eye AF, Animal Eye AF, Race Car AF, and Motorbike AF settings, what do I do when I have human, animal, race car and motorbike all in the same frame?

P.S. What's next? Tree or building AF ?

I used to be one of those that worried about super sharpness, living in the mass of menu settings and leaving the camera in burst mode and would rattle off a ton of shots just to get that one that was hyper sharp. Then I saw light!!

Shooting with a Leica has really opened my eyes to a better/different way of doing things. I find it has slowed my process down so I can think about that image at hand. I really enjoy shooting from the hip with zone focusing to get up close to people without them knowing whats going on (some do pickup on it and a leaf shutter would help) and the reward of a shot I took using it brings a smile to my face once I see it on this 32" monitor.

I know my images are not perfect or will win any prizes or even great compared to the wonderful photographs posted in this thread (the photographers here are just amazing), but I enjoy the process of making them and seeing the results makes its all worth it.

My only regret is not picking up a Leica sooner in life!!!

PS: When I left the mall and was going to make a picture of something at pickup truck pulled up next to me and put his window down to ask "Is that a Leica". I have been using the camera for a few month's now and this is the first person (that I know of) that has noticed the camera. I see where people put tape over the dot to not stand out and I thought about that at first, but really I don't think most people really know or care which is great..

Sorry for the long rant...

I was making some fun of the advanced state of Super sonic AF these days and the need to understand all the associated sub-settings. AF evolution is however amazing IMO. Truth is I very much enjoy shooting both super sonic AF and the Rangefinder. But also learning how to harness super sonic AF also takes some effort and practice.

IMO Zone Focus + RF turns the rangefinder camera into a tool that I can get almost any shot I need or want and I am always amazed when I read people complaining they can't get their active kids in focus with a rangefinder camera.

For me learning to advance my zone focusing skills when I bought my first rangefinder camera the M10, was like learning to see for the first time...again--very natural.

One great thing about the M 10 M is how quiet the shutter is. My M 10s sound loud now ha ha. And they were quieter than my M 262. I rarely get noticed by anyone with my Leica's.

That's how I feel about the Q2 and Q2M. The shutter is virtually inaudible.

Also, the AF in the Q2 cameras is good enough to shoot from the hip or chest and get a reasonably high percentage of in-focus images. The trick is in learning to aim or angle the camera correctly so as to put the focusing rectangle on the subject. It takes practice, but so does zone focusing. My understanding is that a small aperture is usually required with ZF. This is not the case with AF, which leaves room for creative blurring of the foreground and background.

I am not trying to denigrate zone focusing. Photographers should use whatever works best for them. I should probably improve my own ZF skills. The Qs have a smooth-as-butter MF ring that would seem to be well suited to that purpose.

Again as good as auto focus has gotten or will get there nothing faster than being in focus already. A lens without really good DoF scale for me is a deal breaker. I have a good friend with a Q and it is good but definitely not for me. I am a rangefinder kinda guy. Nice to have choices.

Great portraits. Did you use the Croprames (35mm etc.)? Or are these 28mm portraits?
