Thanks Charles. #1 is an example of me continuing to learn to look around and SEE. A light on a trash can isn't particularly interesting but the light on the stone texture was.
Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen one for sale. Must have been my evil twin. I rarely buy lenses in the "normal" FL range that are slower than f/2 since I shoot so much low light. I see there's a couple of them on Ebay.
Thank you Philippe!
You are right. I had ordered one of the last CV 50/1.5 Nokton, cost effective and they have stopped production, so if it does not suit I am sure I can find a new home for it. My favourite is the ZM 50/2 Plannar, but I need a low light f/1.4-1.5, so hopefully after my ZM 50/1.5 Sonnar is recalibrated it will fill the gap.
Good shots Charles but I like the ones you shot with the Planar better. These are quite sharp though. The CV 50/1.5 I had didn't bowl me over wide open. Yours is much better. Maybe mine back focused and it was small enough that I didn't realize that was what was happening.
BTW, Tony emailed me to tell me he'd checked the three Sonnar 50's he had and is sending me the best of the litter although he said there wasn't much difference between them. I should have it Wed but not sure when I'll be able to get a suitable face in front of it. Maybe Wed night.
Thank you Rod Yes, I agree, there is something missing with the CV 50/1.5, that the ZM 50/2 Planar captures. The CV 50 is very sharp wide open, but just not the same. Really nice lens though.
Good luck with the 50 Sonnar! My logic now is if the lens is not right, just send it away to be calibrated. Saves so much second guessing.
Great job with the focusing at that narrow dof Charles. I too prefer the Planar but there are times when you NEED the speed and this lens seems like a great option for my budget
And Dan, no need to say how great the shot is.....as always....but the colors you always get really do it for me. You definitely get the most out of the M9, great job.
Thanks Ryan
I am looking forward to testing the ZM 50 Sonnar properly, as I feel that I prefer the Zeiss rendering. There are a lot of comments about focus shift on this lens, but I feel much of this is due to lack of accurate calibration whether is be the camera or lens, or combination of both, as was my case.
