Great portrait Charles..I really like the look of the Planar. I love how this system/lens combo is so sharp. I feel like I have a lot more flexibility with the Leica/ZM system than I did with the Nikon/ZF system. The only one thing I am sorely missing is the close focus ability with the ZE/ZF line
Actually, the X1, perhaps for the first time, made sense there. It was crowded when we got on to the boat and taking out a big DSLR was not really a practical option. If I had not had the X1, I would not have bothered with any pictures at that point. On the other hand it was a failure as far as the X1 was concerned - even though I knew the conditions would be ideal for it, I did not trust it enough not to bring the 5DII with me...
Luka, the X1 from what I have seen from you seems to struggle with the sky and highlights. Nothing a little PP can't fix, but looks to be an added step. For instance, in your 2nd set above, number 2 looks wonderful, but the sky on the right is much too bright in my opinion...same as number 1 in the 2nd set on the left side and I think number 4 of the 1st set the sky should be a little darker as well.
Come on Ixania, you know very well that writing, as you did, "the problem sits between the ears" is an incendiary personal attack. Except it was not even personal, but targeted at everyone showing pics on this thread.
That pretty much cancels your right to complain IMHO.
Thank you Ryan, Luka I am really liking the ZM 50 Planar.
Luka, I am really liking your shots with the X1. There is a niche for it, when it is just not practical to take the DSLR. I am liking the different perspective feel to the shots. Neat stuff.
Good stuff Charles. I'm going to have to shoot more with my Planar 50. I seem to always take the Lux since it's a stop faster and I shoot a lot in low light.
Thank you Rod and Philippe Appreciate the feedback. Normally I would be using the ZM 50/1.5 Sonnar for low light. I am looking forward to getting it back fully calibrated. The 50/2 Planar, I first noticed how well it rendered by looking at the shots of Tim Barker and his portraits with the M8. He is an excellent photographer IMHO.
Tobin, excellent use of the cv 35 1.4. How is the distortion on that lens? I have been thinking of a low light 35-50 crop equivalent and that looks like an excellent lens for that
Excellent shots Charles - it's very interesting to see how there is no mistaking Zeiss rendering style even on the M9. It's quite different from what you get with Leica glass. How does the 50/2 compare to the ZE 50's (i.e 50/1.4 Planar & 50/2 MP)?
