Wow I just bought a 35 cron asph off fm member jag. Wowzers it's sharp. Like no adding sharp in post at all sharp. I went from cv 35 to cron man lots of difference. I will post some samples this weekend.
JimBuchanan - I've seen this photo before. It seriously made me consider the Elmarit to the Summicron. I ended up with the CV as I got it at a steal, but if you post a few more shots like that I might drop the idea of the cron altogether. Though I really do shoot in low light a lot of the time.
Anyway, here's a test shot from a Noctilux at f/1. I have no idea if it was me, the lens, the camera? But I was trying to focus on that guy, and ended up focusing on the table quite a bit in front of him. I was limited to staying within the boundaries of the shop, so nothing fancy. I took 3 shots BTW, and they all seemed to be off to a great degree, that may have been the saving grace for me not up and buying the lens. I only kept this one because the first shot was of my fiance whom wouldn't let me post as we had just come from the studio (her stationery work not mine) and we were both a mess. And even at closeup distance it was like I focused on the eyes and the hair was in focus. Second shot was of a camera box at a medium to closer distance and it was just blur, and the last shot was a far away shot of the guy. Well not that far..
I think it's a shot people who like the noct can analyze in the sense that it shows how the lens handles messy backgrounds like brick and highlights like lights and grey-white objects. Though by no means is it a good photo, and even if it were in focus I wouldn't consider it a good photo, it's just not my style to begin with.

Jim, how is performance between the pre-ASPH and ASPH of the 28 elmarit? Ever seen/done a side-by-side?
Sorry, I don't have first hand experience between those 2, but I wrestled with the 28-35mm Leica lens options for some time. I will refer to Erwin Puts, who originally suggested the last pre-ASPH could be sharper in center field, with the ASPH having a more consistent sharpness to the corners. Before the Summicron came out, this 28 was top dog in the lineup, so its certainly a contender. And there was the dilemma, with the Summicron being the 28 to have, was it worth the price for that extra f/stop?
Problem was, I wanted a closer to normal effective focal length if I was going to splurge on one late Leica M lens, so I traded to a 35 Summicron ASPH, for a 47mm effective focal length and I got the extra stop to f/2.0. That was cheaper than a 28 Summicron upgrade, in keeping my expenses within reason...
