luka - i like how that eye stands out from the black of the rest of the duck in the last one. it looks like there might be quite a bit of difference between front and back bokeh on the 70-200mm, is that consistant throughout the range.
Not so much front/back but it does vary in quality depending on the distance to the focal plane. It can border on harsh on occasion and is not the best attribute of the lens - at least not at medium distances. I think the MkI version had smoother bokeh.
Here's me being impressed (easily so?) with another Canon wide. This time the FD 20mm F/2.8. All at f/2.8 (just some silly test images on the way to the one dollar shop.) and the first time for me to use this lens:
Here's a 100% crop with only the ACR default sharpening applied:
That's an ice storm rolling in BTW and it must really be cold because now 8hrs later, my computer's ambient temperature is 9c with a space heater going and turned up high, in the room. I'm also wearing two jackets and have a heavy wool blanket wrapped around my legs. Brrrr....
Mmm nothing like some good ole' horse saliva to clean your lenses! That looks hot tho! How come it made you switch, the corner thing people were talking about earlier?
Of course, you might ask why I chose to take that shot wide open. And that's a reasonable question. Had I shot it at f/5.6 it would have been OK. But for some reason I didn't - I probably had just forgotten to adjust the aperture. Anyway, I printed the image on the cover of an A2 sized photo book and the edges looked just as bad as on the 100% crop.
So I got a 21 Distagon and fell in love with it. I haven't used the 16-35 since, but I'm keeping it as a sort of last resort. It's versatile and it's weather sealed.
Wow. It's great to see all these wonderful images from the FL and FD lenses. The NEX and m4/3 have really contributed to their revival. I was always fond of the FD 24/2.8 and the FD 50/1.8 on the FTb. Keep those images flowing ....
