Hi Guy -- any chance of sending me ANY RAW MK II file -- I've downloaded Adobe CS 2.2 upgrade and want to test to see if it works with the MK II RAW.
I've got oodles of bandwidth on a server -- email me off post and I can send you a password to upload it if the file is too big for your email to handle (some email systems limit an attached file to around 4MB or so, in which case I suspect the 8MB file of the 1D MK II probably would be rejected.
I already have the 1Ds -- I know adobe 2.2 works with it but I'd like to try the new .CR2 format of the MK II.

Have you looked at your RGB histogram. If any of the colors are off, have you tried correcting using the White Balance correction (page 52 in the manual) by adjusting the Blue/Amber and Magenta/Green? It is a good way to correct for color.
This is going to be an action and low-light shooters' dream machine. Very impressive. And I disagree with the 1Ds having better color, the mk2 looks noticably better to me. The orange looks like an orange. It's going to run circles around the 1Ds on skin tones! Imagine if Canon fit the same capture device in a 16MP FF version in an updated 1Ds and managed to squeeze 4 fps out of it...
Heh. That's true. I just find that sometimes I'll be shooting at a relatives home and relatives want copies immediately for their own and so I am learning how to take really good jpg photos. I really like this RGB histogram alot.
16MP would make sense. The logic of then charging twice as much for the 1D Mark II ($9000) would also be quite legit; 8MP 1 series at $4500 and 16MP 1 series at $9000.
I get the feeling that the 1Ds Mark II is going to be my real dream camera, but as it stands, the 1D Mark II looks like it will have to tide me over for the next few years.
I look forward to seeing more stuff from the lucky owners of these machines. I am looking to pick one up in August or September...

Yes, and these are good qualities in output. But we're looking at input here. You can always saturate or increase contrast (either local or global) but taking these out is more difficult. The mk2 has a smaller pixel, so by its nature will get lower local contrast out of lenses. That's a truly trivial matter though as long as the noise levels are low.
Iron lets remember there is no sharpening . The 1ds is sharper out of camera but they both need sharpening in post or in camera jpegs. the 1dMKII just needs a little more applied that's it. The 1ds has more detail and it should but sharper is relative to what you do with the file
