ooh a real winter ... nice shot, Sebboh.
thanks, i'm afraid we may be in the middle of a month where the temperature doesn't rise above freezing. should make for some spectacular lake shots though if i can manage to get out of the house.
one more from the smc 50/1.4 wide open. not really a good demonstration of the lens, but i like the shot. accidentally taken at iso 1000 and then pushed in post to iso 16000 (yes the extra zero is supposed to be there). http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5242/5286754463_c21d2f477e_o.jpg
Did a quick test shot with the 55 mm f/1.8 SMC Takumar on my eldest daughter who just came home from school. I love the smoothness of the focusing ring.
I have heard conflicting information about the SMC-Takumar 50/1.4 (M42 screwmount) interfering with the 5D mirror mechanism. I'm in the market to return to Canon DSLRs and one pretty major factor swaying me one way or the other (APS-C vs full-frame) is whether or not I can use the SMC-tak 50/1.4 on the 5D. I used it on my old rebel XT and it was the most phenomenally sharp lens I've ever seen, and if I could use it as a true "normal" lens on the 5D without having to shave the mirror... this would be a strong point in favour of picking up a used 5D.
I see a lot of nice images here from the tak/1.4... have any of you had problems with full frame DSLRs? To re-iterate, this is SMC screw-mount, not Super Tak or anything else.
And this is the main reason I'm seeking clarification. Can someone confirm or deny whether the *SMC* version will work on full frame without modification of either camera or lens?
Walter,
It's hit or miss in this case and it's the reason you see conflicting reports. My SMC Takumar works fine at infinity on one 5D but hits the mirror on another 5D and 5DMKII with the same adapter.

Okay, so it's pretty much exactly aligned with where the mirror swings and manufacturing tolerance differences mean the mirror will contact or not? Got it.
Nice shots Edd. I think all the lenses you bought are probably keepers. Watch the 28/3.5 and 50/1.4 on the 5D though IIRC there can be mirror clearance issues. Here's a site to check: http://www.panoramaplanet.de/comp/index.html#Pentax
