Can you recommend a model? What should I be looking for in terms of UV power output? also how long do I treat the lens in this manner?

Thanks

I was just confirming that you knew that the coating is yellow on the Super-Taks, which I see that you do.
I would probably go with something like this vs. a flashlight/torch.

I've used a $10 blacklight from Wal Mart many times with great success. Most of the yellow will be gone in 3 days, but I'd leave it for a week or so. Place the lens upside down on a piece of foil with the rear element about an inch (or less) from the light.

By shear luck, I found a thread on the Nikon Forum titled "Manual Focus Nikon Glass" - https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/929565/. Lots of interesting images and comments. I was so impressed, I thought it could be instructive and fun to start a similar thread for Asahi Pentax Takumar glass on the Alternative Gear & Lenses forum.

This thread is devoted to those photographers shooting with any brand of digital or film cameras and who mount manual focus Asahi Pentax Takumar lenses. Specifically, this includes the "Super-Takumar", "Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR", and "SMC TAKUMAR" versions. All focal lengths allowed and encouraged.

I'll get the ball rolling by posting three recent images I made using my beloved Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 50mm 1:1.4. All these images were shot at f/2 as I find the focus slight sharper than at f/1.4. I've mounted this wonderful lens on my Canon 5D3 using a Vello M42 to EOS adapter. I love shooting with this lens and how it renders images. The bokeh is terrific and I hope to be mounting in on a Sony A7RII in the near future

So come on down folks and share your delight with us...

p.16 #5 · Takumar Thread

I recently started a new thread on this very subject. I was unaware of this older thread at the time. After a suggestion from another member, I've decided it would be best for me to abandon my new thread (working with Fred on that) and post here with the hopes it may help revive and give momentum to this original thread. I truly hope this original thread will continue to be supported by photographers shooting with any brand of digital or film cameras and who mount manual focus Asahi Pentax Takumar lenses. Specifically, the "Super-Takumar", "Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR", and "SMC TAKUMAR" versions. All focal lengths welcome in my book.

Accordingly, here are three recent images I made using my beloved Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 50mm 1:1.4. All these images were shot at f/2 as I find the focus slightly sharper than at f/1.4. I've mounted this wonderful lens on my Canon 5D3 using a Vello M42 to EOS adapter. I love shooting with this lens and how it renders images. The bokeh is terrific and I hope to be mounting in on a Sony A7RII in the near future.

Three more images taken with my Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 50mm 1:1.4. Again, all shot at f/2 with the lens mounted to a Canon 5D3.

You know, I have had two Pentax k mount lenses, the 50 1.7 (I believe) and 28 2.8 for something like 8 years but never got to use them on anything, but this thread has tempted me to get an adapter and try them on my A7.

Yep, in case folks are wondering if a simple inexpensive blacklight will work on yellowing, it does. I purchased a $5 - 60W Equivalent Black Spiral CFL Light Bulb from Home Depot and have a very yellowed 50 f/1.4 Super Tak sitting 2 inches under it, rear element up, on aluminum foil and after just a day & night it showed great improvement. Today is day 3 but I'll keep it under there until the weekend I think. Looks just about tint free to me already tho.

I photographed the Mystere IV at the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona. A terrific venue for photographing interesting aircraft.
