i've heard a cheap UV LED flashlight will do the trick faster than sunlight even places where you actually see the sun.

Are you talking about the reflection is yellow? thats normal, but if it's yellow when looking through the lens, then it needs treatment.
Pictures taken with the lens have a yellow tint/cast. The lens is radioactive and the radioactive material has decayed enough to change the color of the transmitted light.
