I think at f/2 or f/2.8 - I stopped it down a little to try and still see the lines in the BG leafs. Are those things called leafs?
the plural of leaf is leaves. not that important.
what version is your 1.4? I like your shots with it.
this being the general OM images thread, I feel I should post at least one picture lol. don't have many, this is a pretty new hobby for me and I didnt have a ton of time last year due to school so not much to post (additionally, I make no claims to quality of photographs lol). Cant remember whether this was the 35 or 28, guess I need to write down what Im using for what shots. anyway, sorry for the graininess, for some reason no matter how much I expose I still get visible grain. this is on reala too, Ive ordered some portra to test out. at some point Im going to stop believing it's my fault and start blaming it on the scanners that the labs handling my stuff are using.
I snagged a good deal on a MIJ 50mm f1.8 today. Ill test it against my silvernose 1.4 (nothing scientific, mind you), and report back later with my thoughts.
Im expecting the 50mm f1.8 to be sharper from the get-go with similar results stopped down in which case I will most likely continue to use the f1.4 since Im more than happy to view my pictures in sizes that fit on my monitor.
I'm finishing a deal and will grab a Zuiko 55/1.2. When I have it I can compare this, 50/1.4 1,1xxx,xxx, a plain 50/1.8, and a 50/3.5 macro. Will buy a MiJ when I find a good deal, otherwise I guess I'm already set.

What about the 50mm f/1.2 Don't quit till you are complete
Quick test shot with the Oly 55 ƒ1.2 after a bit of kayaking in the bay on my 'new' 1DSMKII.
Oly zuiko 55mm ƒ1.2 @ƒ8 1/400 ISO 100
Must dig out a few more.

Depending of what we're talking about I'd need to buy the 50/2 macro too...
as I heard one, I would if I could, but I can't, so I won't.
Why the 55 over the 50?
And as for the 50/2, how useful is that as an everyday lens? I would think with the long focus throw, it wouldnt be all that usable, despite its incredible sharpness.
If I was getting a f2, Id want the 28/2 or 90/100 f2. But that's me.

It's not an AF lens so hunting is not going to be an issue, and for non macro use you'll only need only the first 7mm or so of its 25mm of throw. The helicoid pitch is not exceptionally fine, either; just fine enough. It performs like any other standard 50 for focusing at shared ranges.
The 50/2's docs, in common with the 90/2's, suggest 1:10 as its optimum magnification (portrait-ish range), but they both use floating correction and I haven't noted a significant variation in performance between MFD and infinity myself.

55 over 50 because of budget. I couldn't buy a 50/1.2 for $390 + shipping (almost did it) and ended trading for the 55/1.2 for about $220 total. Not bad IMO... I really am a Zuiko junkie...
As an everyday MF lens, I use the Rokkor today. This can change when I have the 5D unless I shave camera and/or lens.
