Thanks!
It says H.ZUIKO AUTO-W 1:2,8 f=24mm. Does that mean it's single coated? I have no idea so maybe someone else can confirm.
It's hard to say. If it's one of the later lenses, it might be multicoated without having the "MC" on it. Here's a nice link that deals with Oly lenses (german):
Looks like mine is one of those early silver nose lenses, which means it's single coated. I just compared it to my newer 50mm 1,4 and found the reflections on the front lens to be a bit more yellowish with the 24mm.

That is comforting - I'm in the market for a nice 24/2.8, and I can only find single coated lenses. Seems like that doesn't matter. And besides, I LOVE being able to produce some flare. My Canon glass just doesn't do that.
My Zuiko 85/2 arrived, and what can I say... I love it. We (the lens and I) only had ten minutes of light left this afternoon, and I rushed outside even without changing out of my business clothes to try it out. Behold the mandatory cat photo:
Here is one from the Zuiko OM 35mm f/2.8. It is the "silver nose" single coated edition. I feel like this lens is the step child of the OM system. I rarely see anyone using it.
At f/8 is is very sharp, I will do some wide open shots as well. Bow Bridge

Excellent photo. Looks like it's from central park?
We tried to organize a meet in NYC, but there weren't enough people, and we just weren't familiar enough with each other photos (at least that was the consensus).
I asked this over on rff but I know the people in this thread tend to shoot more digital so maybe you can help me out:
My 28mm f3.5 looks awful on my 40d. Like, unsharp across the frame focused even though I focused with 10x live view. Complete and utter mush in the corners. This is at all apertures. And on APS-C.
Looks sharp corner to corner on acros though.
Looks seriously jaggy in Picasa photoview (what I use to grab raws off of CF and put them on HDD) but less so in Photoshop through ACR but it's still there to some degree.
I would think even a bad copy of this lens should be able to do better than that at f8 =/ What's the deal?
Well if it's that bad and you're focusing OK then it's possible that someone took it a apart and didn't reassemble it properly, or perhaps dropped. Was it any good or did you just buy it?

Mike
It's better at the edges on film than the center on digital.
This lens has had two owners and never been taken apart. The first owner was my grandfather who bought it new, and the second owner is me. Cosmetically it's in perfect shape, you would never guess it had been dropped and if it had been it doesnt seem to affect the performance on my OM-1/2 which are my primary cameras.

My first guess is bad adapter thickness. Consumer grade camera's have more manufacturing tolerance in their mount/assy. That coupled with a small variation in the adapter can really throw things off a bit. BEWARE the cheap adapater for WA/UWA !!!
WA's are particularly sensitive to adapter thickness variation. I shoot my 28/3.5 on APS-H & FF. I did a 28mm shootout https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/943992/0?keyword=28mm,shootout#8920642 with it the Nikon 28/2.8 AIS and the C/Y 28/2.8 (FF) ... all nice in their own right, with the little Oly holding its own nicely. Shooting it on a crop sensor, you should have no problems at all with your corners.
One a different note ... the Oly's can have a lower contrast (not to be confused with less sharp) that require a bit more help in PP than some other glass ... but they get there ... just a different recipe.
Post up an image over in the Photo Critique forum (best to put all you ACR settings to 0 rather than using default). It'll likely look very dull and soft, but that's okay ... several members there will take a look at it and be able to either PP it nicely or verify missed focus. Advising where focal point was would be helpful as well.
One more note ... not sure how strong the AA filter is on the 40D. As a consumer grade, it might be a bit heavy handed, coupled with the Oly's lower contrast might be part of the issue too ... again pp correctable.

Corollary: beware the cheap lens for the expensive adapter?
I use the FotoDiox Pro adapters. They have served me well for Leica R, Oly, C/Y, Nikon-F, and Mamiya M645. I used one of their regular adapters for F-EOS once (rented) ... not impressed, i.e. "ya gets what ya pays fer"
Certainly other quality adapters out there, but FotoDiox has most all the bases covered and their pro line has shown to be very consistent in my experience, i.e. I trust using them. I typically buy them through Amazon for shipping & tax advantages.
I've also talked with their tech dept. a bit regarding a project I was thinking about undertaking ... they were nice enough to show me an easier way than I had been thinking.
Not the only game in town ... but so far, so good on this end.
