p.1 #1 · Canon LP-E6 Battery

What's going on with the price of the LP-E6 battery? Sometime back it was $59.95 at B&H and last week it was $79.95 and out of stock. I checked today and it's still out of stock but now it's $89.95. It looks like it's heading back to the original price of $100+ for some reason.

supply outstripping demand will put the price up. all these video users are probably eating the batteries.
Also have you noticed that there are no knock off chipped ones around. that probably allows canon to up the price as well

Yeah, this is disgusting. I thought the supply has caught up a couple of months ago and I sold two here with good prices. But when I need one for my 5D II now, the price is almost doubled.

Found an ebay seller claiming to have OEM batteries - $19.99 plus $9.99 S&H for each battery. Ships from the East, Asian area perhaps Hong Kong. I will see if they are genuine or not when they arrive.

Care to share the name/link?

I just bought 2 generics from eBay, rated for 2200mah, much better than the Canon versions-- but, of course, the batteries don't report to the camera, so there's no indication how long the batteries have left on their charge.

That's OK, these generics cost me $20 for 2 batteries and a charger. And they are working remarkably well.

Since I was shooting a lot of video I needed a backup a few weeks ago and found it really cheap on Canoga and a couple other web sites but it was out of stock so it might as well have been free.

B&H had it for $79.95 and it was in stock so I paid $79.95 but got free 2 day shipping for being a NAPP member. Since I'm in Arizona (a long way from NY) I saved about $15.00 overall.

A battery in hand is worth two that are out of stock.

I'm not a betting person but I'll bet you the cost of those batteries they won't be genuine OEM & new. Hope they work well anyway.

I don't know when they will arrive - they were shipped "Singpost."

If they are OEM, I'll be extremely happy with that purchase.

From what i read in some chinese forum, they have released the chipped version of LP-E6. And I am pretty sure that those LP-e6 you get going to non-canon but look like canon.

as long as it worked that would still make it the cheapest chipped option around at the moment. If you can find them they are normally around $60

Looks like they are back in stock - prices are still silly...$89.95 at B&H and $99.95 at Adorama...

They're back in stock at Newegg for $79.99 (just ordered one)...

$20 versus $60-$100 from trusted retailers? I'm finding it really hard to believe these are legit.

Almost surely not legit. Seems most places are having trouble keeping the Canon battery in stock though, which pretty well explains the price increase.

I'm reluctant to use non-OEM batteries in my 5D, though I have used them with no problem with my 40D. I don't shoot a lot of video, and B&H threw in an extra OEM battery when I bought the 5D2, but if the $20 knock-offs ARE chipped and work, that would be nice for everyone to know.

Well..i hope i didn't do a mistake, but i just ordered one of those.

The seller has good feedback, in the picture and description it looks genuine, and i also asked the seller to be sure.

I guess if its fake i can always use ebay's buyer protection

It's worth the gamble for 30$ original battery (vs 70-100$)

I will update when i get it

I just bought one in the UCI campus bookstore in Irvine ca, for 69.99. And they had 7 more in stock. My local bestbuy is also in stock as well as sammys camera in Pasadena, but they(sammys) are just like B&H and Adorama jacking up the prices to $99. What a way to take advantage.
