I actually toned the greens down a bit. That was fresh grass in early spring, so my guess is that they are pretty accurate. Even now, the greens around here are still glowy.
A couple more, both with the awesome Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-R around f/5.6, and then I am done with this course.
I have to say that I am very happy with the course. The location was top, and I got a sufficient number of great tips from the teacher to completely turn around my HDR photography from mediocre to as good as anything else I make photos of. The HDR aspects are no longer what hold me back.
For anyone interested, it was the Industrial Heritage course in Germany from Nikonians. Highly recommended. I might go again this fall. The teaching took place in English, and there were participants from the Netherlands, Germany and even one guy who drove down from Copenhagen in Denmark.
The ones previous to the last series have a much more muted HDR appearance.
The last ones although very nice give me the impression that I am looking at a 3d render of a PC game which uses similar mapping look. This does by no means takes away from the value of the shots.
With the 3D render comment, you mean that I flattened the DR a bit too much? That could be. With the shot above, I have finished my processing for the course, and I might redo a couple more to my own personal taste, which is probably a bit more muted. I might let some black shadows creep in, for example.
With respect to the second-last shot above, I just couldn't really find the look I was hoping for when I made the shot. I think the only way for me to get it right would be to dabble in local operations, which I have avoided in almost all of the rest of the shots.

Yes, I think you are right with the DR too much flattened. Probably you need to bring back the blacks.
I used the Nikon D3 for all of these, mostly with either ZF.2 21/2.8 or Leica Summilux-R 35/1.4.
I will give that last shot another try, with a bit more blacks, and a brighter outside. Note that this shot is not the least realistic compared to real life. The "tunnel" you see is actually the base of a cooling tower, and light is filtering down from above.
I found Carsten's HDR series a resounding success: restrained processing, fascinating locations, color palette. Bravo! I like images with punch, and thought this one was a bit flat, but eventually decided it's great as is.
I finally went on a trip recently to see how much I missed my 35 summicron-r. Yeah, it is no 35 summicron asph but it stayed on my camera nearly the whole time. Here are a few...
I have enjoyed having it around the second time. The corners are a bit soft until f/8 or so but it adds to the overall image, along with the vignetting. It doesn't bother me to bad as I have the 35 cron asph for the M.
The soft corners are really apparent on the two trees and root shot above. That looks like 5.6 or so. I put up some more a bit later.
