I have a Leica R Elmarit 35mm f2.8. Used to like it on a Canon crop body, but now on the 5D, shows a good center but VERY louzy corners. So I bought the Zeiss ZE 35 and it's wine and water diference...
ManWearPants, that 35-70 is looking nice. I may have to keep my eyes peeled for one of those. I could get used to a zoom if it yields results like that.
35mm Summicron
35mm Summicron
The .jpg compression looks kinda bad on that first one. Atleast it did on flickr. I was trying out Lr 3's new flickr deal.

Like that, yes. Like this, no. Cannot beat the Cron 35. My gripe about the zoom is f4 is the widest aperture. Of course there is always the 35-70/2.8
I know what you mean with the f4 limit. It may help me for some shots. Shooting with a 85L with 90% of my shots gave me the ability to shoot at 1.2 which turned out to be a bad thing at times. Like the picture of the tree I just posted, it could use a little more depth of field. I am so used to shooting wide open. I have screwed myself up with that 85L.
I have to remind myself at times that my lens does stop down. Haha.
